Which sport is the MONEY sport? Track? Soccer? Baseball? NOPE. It's football (and maybe basketball). Why not try to have the BEST football team available, right? Prestige! Notoriety! C'mon, who recruits girl's volleyball players?

How many of these student athletes go to a Catholic school because it's a great school and how many go because they are disgruntled with their public school? Do they go because they want to pay money for a Catholic education or because they hate their coach, principal, athletic director, etc.? If a public school kid hates his coach, he can't go to another public school unless his parents move to the district. That may not be recruiting, but it's a huge advantage for the private schools.

Even small private schools must pick and choose what sports to be good at. Can you imagine giving "aid" to every athlete in the school? There wouldn't be enough tuition money left to pay the bills. That is why the majority of the private schools focus on the money/highly visible sports.

"C'mon, who recruits girl's volleyball players?"

Not BC - they just lost one - family had a long time connection with the school and not one word, contact or comment from admin on the transfer - attitude was pretty much - don’t let the door hit you in the **** on the way out! Admin is focused on football - to bad she didn’t play football.

Everyone is sitting here saying how these athletes are being recruited to play for McCort but if you'd wake up and honestly take a good look at the majority of McCort's football team you'd find that somewhere around 80-90% (POSSIBLY EVEN MORE) of McCort's athletes came to McCort from a catholic grade school and/or have an older borther that played football in the past. This proves that yes McCort recruits but not by offering scholorships or finacial benefits but through their high reputation and the fact that they are a Catholic High school. Parents wanted it for their kids b4 they were football stars and they still want it for them during high school. Among the many McCort examples are sheridan, rizzo, domonkas, shellhammer, turner, paros, cruz, spangler, lebda...and the list goes on and on in all of McCort sports. So to answer the true question at hand ...yes mcCort does recruit through their Pride, Tradition and Loyalty. McCort's reputation and Catholic foundation do all the recruiting they need!!!

true pappy, but how many of thier best players "came up through the catholic ranks" so to speak? i honestly dont know, i know that richland fellar a few years back certainly didnt grow up in a catholic school. did the hawkins brothers? i dont know, i dont think myron coleman did either. so true that the majority of the team has been catholicly schooled for life, i think its safe to say that the majority of thier best players came in at a later age

Well, im sorry to prove you wrong but I just thought if your going to post about something then at least know what you are talking about. The Hawkins/Jones family is extremely religious...they sent all the kids up through St. Patricks in Moxham. Myron Coleman also went up through the system at West End Catholic in the West End section of Johnstown. The Cruz's came up through, the only exception i can think of are the Lewis brothers, but their Dad works for the Altoona-Johnstown catholic school system. Ive also heard that they had some racial troubles up in Forest Hills so they pulled Shawn out and Scott had a choice. Recruited? Doesnt sound like it to me.

Sheridans, Defrances, Rizzo, Schellhamer, Lebda, Seidel, Varga, Paros, Turner, Santichen, Cruz, Spangler, all 3 Terchaniks, McClain, Reaman, Barbin,.....i could be missing some...but i went through a roster to get the players who play the most on McCort and there are all the people who came up through the system. Thats almost all of the players who start or play a lot on O and D. Doesnt sound like recruiting to me. So whats all the fuss about?

Thank you fairweather, i didn't take the time to actually do research on the topic and i forgot alot of them but i was simply trying to make the point that there really hasn't been that many transfers from a public school to a catholic school and that most of the Prime Time players have grown up in the Catholic school system. Also going to school at benedicts or pats or omos etc. (speaking from my knowledge of my son)the kids dream of putting on the red and gold. The McCort players are highly looked up to as role models and being a player is a goal for these kids. Thats why McCort has such a high turn out on Grade school spirit night. They don't want to go to McCort because they can get a scholorship or because Coach Salem gave them a free t-shirt. It's because McCort is a goal, and it's sooo important for these kids to grow up and put on those helmets and jerseys ....my son goes to every game and i've seen his eyes light up when those players smash through the sign. It just a terrific program and kids want to be a part of it! To think that these kids are choosing a high school based on their position on a football team is absurd. Kids care about where their friends go, how hot the girls are, and how cool the football jersey's are and not to mention that their parents want them to go to a Catholic high school since they went to a catholic grade school and after all they make the final decision. HAHAH this whole question is pointless!
