Re: Week 2 Surprises?
I was not at the game but you say the play in question happened in the 2nd quarter??? How can someone be running up the score in the second quarter?? It's not like Forest Hills is a little single A school with 18 players that can barely field a team each week and you know will be overmatched from the start. This is Forest Hills who is supposed to contend for the district title. So don't whine about someone running up the score if you want to be considered a top team in the area.

It's sort of humorous to see the same people whining last year about Richland running up the score have now moved on to Somerset. But I notice someone still found something to trash talk Richland about even though they weren't, and from the looks of things, won't be, in the conversation this year.
I guess some people really are sore losers? HaHa.

Re: Week 2 Surprises?
...That's right, you were NOT at the game. It was obvious from the beginning that FH was going to struggle Friday night. Somerset was as good as advertised. After FH's starting QB left the game early in the 2nd quarter (never to return) down 14-0, the fat lady was about to sing. Before long, (2 more TD's, one extra point and a safety later) the score escalated to 29-0. After the Somerset TD made it 29-0, everyone around me was questioning why, with such a commanding lead, Somerset lined up for the two point conversion. Was FH about to stage some miracle comeback with their 3rd string QB? It's not like they were kicking an extra point and the snap was mishandled, causing the kicker or holder to try and run it in for two. It was a DESIGNED play for two points. On the first attempt, Somerset was penalized for illegal procedure. So they tried it AGAIN from the 8 yard line. A second consecutive penalty pushed them further back again. Then, on the 3rd try for two, FH stopped them. The rest of the game is history. Now again, can someone explain to me WHY, with a 29 point lead (no matter WHAT quarter you are in) you should be going for two? There is NO strategic advantage of having 31 points instead of 30. Both still afford the winning team a 4 possession advantage, not a 5 possession advantage. The only reason most of us could conceive for doing this was "rubbing it in." The players didn't call the play, right? So WHICH coach did? The head coach?? Even it was one of the assistants, didn't the head coach have to OK it?
...After watching the Pirates, Steelers, Pitt and FH for many, many years, I have seen A LOT of losses. And some of them really hurt. This loss was NOTHING, compared to others I have witnessed. I have learned to accept losses. The problem for Somerset is, they are winning, but they have NOT learned to win. Being mediocre for over 30 years, they have that swagger that Richland had the last two years. And that's a reflection of the coach. You can beat on teams when you are winning, or you can be a gentleman about it and STILL win handily. There was absolutely NO reason for Somerset to go for two in that situation. None what-so-ever. The old saying "humble in victory, gracious in defeat" still has merit. Learning how to win can be harder than learning how to lose.

Moldo I like alot of things you say in your posts, but I believe you are making more out of this than need be....Landis is a good guy and one two-pt conversion that is questioned by a few people should not label him or their program....I can see not agreeing with it, but let's move on....

He could've been trying to get the ball to someone that usually doesn't get an opportunity too... Just not really worth getting mad. If they were running reverses in 4th qtr then beat the drum. Otherwise I wouldn't look into it too much

Who cares if they ran it up or not? If you are good you are good

Re: Week 2 Surprises?
I think the 2 pt conversion that should be questioned the most this weekend was Windber going for 2 when leading 39-6 to make it 41-6 lead and final over Ferndale. IMO any coach that goes for 2 when leading by 33 should be question. Even the Steelers could protect a 34 pt lead. If your lead makes it to the mercy rule fine but do you really need the mercy rule?

And i was at the ferndale windber game and i do agree that 2 point conversion play was uncalled for but in windbers defense they suck so they was just trying to get all the points they can cause there not going to win many games

Re: Week 2 Surprises?
Getting it to a 35 point lead would initiate the running clock. Maybe that's why they tried in that case? I think I'd rather let my younger kids get some playing time though.
