Election 2004!!! Make YOUR vote count....
Re: Election 2004!!! Make YOUR vote count....
I've lit that keg on here before. I can handle it.
What was pleasantly surprising to me was the number of high school kids on here that agreed with me. I didn't say all did, but the number was much higher than I thought.

They don't get poisoned until they go to College.

Re: Election 2004!!! Make YOUR vote count....
Let's not bring Christianity into this. As a Christian, I do not believe it is right to judge the faith of others. Kerry is a Catholic, Bush is a Baptist (might be wrong about that one), Clinton was a Southern Baptist (I think). So all of these men are Christians. They have all made decisions that do not agree with my Christian faith: Kerry's abortion stance, Bush's death penalty and war in Iraq, and Clinton's various personal indescretions. I do not believe it is my job to judge any of them, and prefer to believe the best about them.
I also think it is dangerous to claim a mandate from God to go to war. This is what happened during the crusades. This fueled manifest destiny. I do not believe God was pleased with either of these. There are cases of war in the Bible, but these were accompanied by clear signs from God. I do not think our situation here parallels that any more than the two cases stated above.

Poisoned by what? A different perspective. I think there are good, honorable people on both sides of the debate. To suggest that those on the pro-choice side are poisoned shows a lack of understanding of that viewpoint. I personally am pro-life, but I understand the thinking that leads to a pro-choice view. I know a couple people who are pro-choice but would never have an abortion. They just believe that the option should be there for those who do not share their personal convictions.
By the way, why is this even a voting issue? We have had four years of a Republican House, Senate, President and a conservative court. Yet, nothing has changed. I was hoping that Bush would make some headway towards a new abortion policy, however, the only thing that was even mentioned was partial birth.

You know, I promised myself to shut up and stay off BC -- but ...

Rather shrill and ugly posts, don't you think, guys? Using "Stalinist" besmirches the faith of millions of people who are proud to be Democrats. It's like smearing all Republicans for the excesses of the Religious Right.
LionPride, here's a cheap shot back at you: "How about how George Bush supports the murder of innocent teenage soldiers?"
And to equate college with being "poisoned" is provincial and contradictory, and you know it. For most of us it's the first real time we're exposed to different views and challenged to think for ourselves. Whether we come out with radically changed new philosophies or solidified old ones isn't the point: it's th fact that we've refused to mindlessly echo those of our parents.
Both of you need to quit being so patronizing to the people you disagree with -- or else run for office since you've got all the answers.
At least I admit I'm confused. That's the first step to real knowledge -- unless you guys decided to jump over it.

Re: Election 2004!!! Make YOUR vote count....
I thought that would get you wound up foggy!
The whole religion debate isn't aimed at anyone on here instead in response to the GQ magazine article depicting Bush as the anti-Christ. Very dangerous propaganda from a mainstream magazine. The Democrats have ridiculed Bush's guidance through faith in the Bible from day one. Bush is a professed Methodist hardly a fundamenalist Christian denomination.
Instead of blasting the conservatives on here why don't some of you left leaning BC's on here try to explain the liberal position on some of these views such as abortion, religion, etc.
"Stalinist" is a little strong foghorn. What about "Marxist".
In response to the "poisoned at college" remark. You know as well as I do that there are many more liberals in the professer positions than conservatives and they make no "bones" about hiding it. Instead of presenting both sides they mock the conservative side as unjust and the liberal side as the just.

"I'm your huckleberry"
GQ -- A mainstream fashion magazine for the rich snobby children of people like Bush AND Kerry. I'd rather read Hannity's column, for God's sake.

Re: Election 2004!!! Make YOUR vote count....
I've made no comment on this and have read only the comments on this last page so I may be repeating. I have a few thoughts that may seem like I am in a completely different world.
1. I am concerned if John Kerry wins, what role will the UN play in our lives. The European Union delegates have already arrived to "monitor" this election and make sure it is on the up and up. The World Court which George Bush has refused to be a part of and not yielded to continues to put pressure on the US to comply. Will John support this? Will the tax plan the UN is working on be required of me. I don't mind helping out, but wish to have a choice.
2. I listened to a bit of the last debate and heard Kerry answer a question on using tax dollars to fund abortion. This is definitely an personal and moral stance, but I personally will not stand before Jesus Christ and answer for supporting someone who willingly and deliberately allowed for the innocent to be killed and supports the destruction of family as designed by the Lord. I'm not the brightest bulb in the pack, but I can use history to show you what has destroyed the greatest civilizations through time. I have never used this in public as it isn't politically correct, but the collapse of Rome wasn't really caused by inflation, invasion by barbarians, and lack of political leadership. Those were the outward signs of a more specific problem.
Foggy--To me soldiers killed in battle, although tragic, willingly signed up to fight and are not to be viewed in the same category as babies.
I do not believe George Bush to be perfect, but I believe he attempts to live according to a standard that is set by someone other than himself.

Bedrock -- maybe you're not the brightest bulb in the pack, but you burn a heck of a lot brighter than most of us. And I'm not being patronizing.
I was giving LP a "cheap shot" because he had just unloaded one.
Of course they're not in the same category. But if we want to make religion the prime determinate in picking our next president, then let's take it a step farther and make sure that all the appointees that president makes also conform to those particlur doctines. An impossible task, isn't it?
The UN thing is touchy and troubling. There's got to be a middle ground between being manipulated by the UN and disowning them. Sort of like the kind of diplomacy 41 spent most of his professional life working on. Of course, 43 won't ask his dad for advice.

man...george bush KNEW there were WMD's in Iraq...now everyone is admitting Iraq didnt have any...including powell and blair...everyone except mr.bush...who cant admit he was wrong, and likes to smirk during debates when he doesnt want to face the real questions... you gotta love this guy, hes pulling a richard nixon, not admitting there are huge problems in our country, the funny thing is... it works for some people.
