I didnt mean it to say that I was frightened or scared of bigger teams, I was just asking what the other schools sizes were.

I am frightened as a player to play some of the huge teams in the MAC,

CrAllSportPlayer. You are one lucky guy. You get the opportunity to be involved on the front line of the next step forward for the CR Lions Football team.

Someone else mentioned it earlier but I will ask. What specifically is being done differently with the team this offseason to prepare them for this new conference and level of competition?

I would guess that each level of the football program will need to make some adjustments. From the coaching to the booster club.

This is an exciting opportunity for the whole CR community.

sorry, I was just reading some old posts...

Opinion Guy, I doubt that most high school football programs make the money you think they make....football usually has the largest budget by far....football usually has the most coaches.....I'm sorry, they may make some money, but certainly not enough to drive the other programs like Penn State football might do for the entire sports program there.....

Football costs----uniforms, equipment, reconditioning every year, game workers, game officials, plus whatever else....without a doubt, it is a much larger budget and cost than any of the other sports.....

if we were living in an urban or suburban area where games were 15-30 minutes away in every direction, then you might have some flexiblity....but in rural PA, you have to find something that will work for the entire athletic program, not just comfort football and leave the rest out in the cold....

now, I don't know what your travel times are, but if you were in a section of D6 that had to travel, you might view things differently (and by travel, I mean an hour is one of the shortest rides)....

Many schools have some sort of booster program that pays for alot of the teams expenses...uniforms, equipment, field care, transportation, weight rooms. Just about the only thing that the school dishes out any more are coach/ref fees and electrical bills for the lights. Other than that, alot of the bill is picked up by the boosters.

I'm basing a lot of my numbers off of what I know. I know what FH averages a gate per game, and I am basing my numbers off of that. I'm sure Ridges gate numbers aren't as good as what they are in Sidman...but it would improve if the program improved...

Gatewise...per season...with 5 home regular season games, with a home playoff game football is generating at minimum of $70,000. That number is grossly underestimated.

If you ever coached, you know the numbers you see in magizines for equipment is not the price you play when you:

#1 order from a local equipment supplier (Sportsmans in the Johnstown Area)
#2 buy a large quantity

You don't get all new stuff every year.

Uniforms? You get roughly a new set of Uniforms every 4 years. Like Gunner said...boosters usually pick up a large portion of the tab here.

Coaches. This is the largest chunk of what football cost. You are looking at roughly One gate to play for all of your varsity coaches.

Scorekeeper 50 bucks per, gate watchers...not even that, officials $600 per game.

Transperation...what 5 games, 2 buses for football.

Lights: This is my favorite one. If schools are worried so much about the cost of lights...why do they leave them on EVERY NIGHT for walkers of the track.

If the numbers don't work out...which ones don't. I'm curious.

And how do you consider an hour being your shortest ride? Anything Ebensburg or south, and from Westmont toword 56 can be driven in an hour. FH, Bedford, and Richland can all be driven less than 40 minutes.

Bedford's been making a 15 minute longer trip for years and I never see them complaining.
And the last thing I must tell you...NEVER QUIT!

I am new to bleacher coaches and i will say I really like it. I have read this thread and I would think that Ridge being in the MAC would be a positive move. I don't see where Ridge playing Glendale, Claysburg, NBC, and this year playing Tussey and Willamsburg will help Ridge if they make the AA playoffs. I would think that by playing bigger and better competition would help them in the playoffs. As a bedford county fan I am going to miss the Ridge vs. Claysburg, NBC, Everett and this coming fall Ridge playing Tussey Rivalaries, but playing schools your own size will only benefit Ridge. This is not a knock by any means on the schools mentioned. I just think that if Ridge is going to take there program to the next level playing schools your own size and playing better competition would make the Ridge team playoff ready. Ridge has dominated the above teams the last 5 years and that is a credit to their coaches and players. But, when you are talking about Forest Hills, Tyrone, Bishop McCort and those teams that are always in the AA playoffs, I am sorry but playing Glendale, Willamsburg and so forth will not prepare you for the AA playoffs. Just my Opinion.

This coming fall they will be playing in the ICC. Fall of 2008 is first season in the MAC. Again a good move for Ridge football.

The big question is what if Ridge is A in 2008? A very good possibilty. Ridge will be on the A/AA edge for the forseeable future.
