yes d-6 would probally have to approve forfiets and yes out of state schools may be scheduled or even private non PIAA schools like Kiski Prep, class for those schools are based on their enrollment, the school who schedules such a game has to get that info to the district football chaiman. I also think at this late of a date in reality for football scheduling forfeits will be award, teams where given forfeit wins vs Turkeyfoot a few years back and I'm 99% positive that was announce eariler than this

p.s. lack of playing nine games in A or 10 in AA for D-6 doesnot eliminate a school for post season play in it self but does dramatically limit the number of points a school can re rewarded. In this case it is just not the 100 d-6 awards for a win but the bonus points another school is award for victory of oppents. For example if a class A Heritage conference team goes 8-0 on the field, is not warded the Laurel Valley forfeit and all other heritage conference schools are also unable to find an oppent for their Laurel Valley date, the 8-0 class A team would have 190 less points come district playoff time. that could put an undefeated team in the 5 or 6 seed for the playoffs this is something I think all Heritage conference ADs and most other ADs would want to advoid

d6 football doesn't divide total points by games played to get final average points per game? that is how they do it in every other sport in d6.

No, total points for all games played; this is why Ligonier Valley who only had 9 games scheduled in the begining of last season scrambled for a week 10 game (North Star). Football unlike other team sports can make up cancelations on Sat or Mon without too much problem. Basketball and Baseball/Softball has more of a problem of finding open dates for teams and officials for make-up games thus the difference most likely

The westpac has an odd number of teams this year leaving all but two schools with and open date in their schedule. Although many Westpac schools have already filled their open week, I'm sure there are a few schools that have an open date for next year.
Also, the Heritage Conference teams have been asking others to join the conference. Word is they would like to get three teams.
Possibles-- Glendale, Harmony (in all sports but football).

First I heard the Harmony closing, Who would/are they merging with? Just wondering. Would be even less surprised if they are planning to study merger possibilities. I predict we will see between 3 to 6 such mergers in the district 5 & 6 areas in the next 10 years in the light of the shortfalls in teacher pension funds and cutting of state education budgets

Rumors about Harmony closing always seem to mention Purchase Line, Northern Cambria, Cambria Heights, and/or Glendale in possible mergings. Part of the Harmony school district splits Purchase Line in two halves so you'd think that part would have to merge with PL.

But the Progress just published an article discussing a feasibility study completed by Harmony concerning the adequacy of the school building and possible new projects. So clearly that information that I heard doesn't seem accurate.

It is my understanding that the Heritage Conference held an emergency meeting after the Ligonier board voted to close Laurel Valley M/High School. The Laurel Valley dates will be forfeits. Ligonier will be asked to leave the conference for the 2011-2012 school year. They will have to look to the Laurel Highlands, Westpac or WPIAL for admittance.
After the meeting the Ligonier reps stopped by United's baseball field. The Ligonier athletic Director came up with a huge wish list within 48 hours of the closing of LV which includes a new baseball field in Ligonier. They are also looking at putting bleachers on the visitors side at Weller field. No need for that. I think that the only extra people going to the games from LV will be parents.
The Ligonier board is calling the new school Ligonier Valley Rams...talk about throwing a bone to an anorexic. They handed out the new coaching positions without interviewing. They published the list of coaches in the Latrobe Bulliten before the board voted on them...with most going to the Ligonier coaches. Can you say egg on your face Christine Oldham  !
This school board is comprised of the most underhanded snakes, with the exception of Skip Sansing that you will ever find! During this past Mondays meeting one of the supposedly Christian board members flipped the bird to one of the Laurel Valley speakers...talk about professionalism. Just the kind of person you want making decisions about your childrens education!
