the reason i asked that question was because i spoke with the band director at the windber/ridge game and she showed me the roster with the names of the kids and the church they were associated with, and i wont argue those numbers jack because i dont know which were starters and those who have yet to play, but i will tell you 30% were not from catholic schools, thats 3 out of every 10 that came there after 9th grade so with a roster of 40 12 kids came to mccort 9th grade or later. and listen, i am not saying its wrong, many of us parents have thought of putting our kids in private school for the recognition to be seen by colleges, but in the end i would rather my son play with the kids he grew up with and maybe only get to play a div 2 school then play in a new system with new people, i have nothing but good wishes for mccort and all the schools that play, because like in the movie the rookie, guess what we get to do today,,,, we get to play ball. playoffs are coming in 2 weeks and i hope mccort and all the others play their hearts out and make us parents proud of them whether they are starting running backs or 9th graders learning from their starters what it takes to play the game hard and play the game right. i am still upset with n.s. doing that onside kick and punching it in with 28 seconds instead of taking a knee.. lol

Hello Wayne Jones, Mike Cruz,Hawkins, and Jose Cruz. Thats 4 D1 players in 5 years, thats more then most public schools around, in fact it is. They all came from catholic schools! They aren't your so called transfer students. They went to Parochial schools. Oh throw in Kicker Matt Domonkos.

wow.. just asked a question since i SAW the roster book of the kids and 30% were not parochial school kids i wanted to see if someone would give me an honest answer of the kids who transfered in at 9th grade or later but if you just want to throw 4 names at me and say thats your answer fine.. sorry i asked. i feel like i just asked bill belichick if he taped the jets playcallers. i am sure they would be successful but when schools lose kids like larue and ruggs 9th grade or later it makes an impact on the schools they left, I will put you in my prayer chain for your anger control. i wont post any more about it, ill just check the roster next year lol

Public schools and their fans need to be careful what they wish for when it comes to the separation of public and private for athletics. The separation will open a can of worms that the public schools will not be able to prevent or stop. That can of worms will be recruiting; there will nothing stopping McCort, Carroll and Guilfoyle from truly targeting every good player in the area and recruiting them to their respective teams. It is a major issue in many states that have separated them.

I think most people can agree that The Best Westpac team came from District 6 in Portage.

The playoff seedings are determined from the conference schedules and maybe a game or two out of conference like Bellwood-Tyrone, huntingdon-mount union, etc.

The past few years District V westpac teams haven't gotten to play the top teams to play out of the ICC since Bellwood, Juniata Valley, and Mount Union, Moshannon Valley, Glendale, etc. play out of District 6.

Portage and Blacklick were two of the top teams from the westpac. i'd have to go with windber, berlin, and ct for the other teams to round out the top 5 westpac teams this time period.

After seeing what portage did to these fellow westpac teams in the regular season, it's debateable but would any of these Distirct V westpac teams have been able to beat Bellwood, McCort, or Purchase Line?

Could the Disstrict V westpac teams have been able to beat lower tier lhac, or heritage teams in Bishop Carroll or Guilfoyle? Mount Union? Penns Manor? Marion Center? United? Ligonier Valley (a 5-4 bellwood team knocked ta 9-0 LV team out of the playoffs in 2007 26-6)? Laurel Valley (always was tough under coach page usually finishing 6-3 or 7-2 on the season)? homer center? Blairsville (who ran a spread passing offense and was tough to stop by alot of the top teams in the heritage)?

The District V mid-upper tier teams in windber, ct, and berlin have had some success in District V against the lower tier ICC teams. Too bad they didn't get Bellwood, Mount Union, Mo Valley, Glendale, etc.

As highlighted, I think this is what every thinks when they say the westpac is weak. They compare the top team (Portage) to what they did in the playoffs. They were hyped up on wjac-tv and in the tribune democrat the last few years. They steamrolled the rest of the westpac. Conemaugh Township waited until 5 seconds left every snap to run their plays even though they were losing to keep their game close in the 27-14 loss in 2009.

After pounding the westpac teams they were able to beat low seeded bottom-mid level teams from the other conferences in the early rounds of the playoffs. Some of the scores weren't even major blowouts of these teams.

When the time came to play the top teams from the conferences, the only top team they beat from another conference was Purchase Line in 2008. They have played every playoff game but the Bellwood game on their home field. I think most people would agree that Bellwood would have beat them in 2008 just like they did in 2009 had they played. (Remember the score of the McCort Bellwood semi final in 2008 was 24-20 when gouse proclaimed they were the best public school in D6 after being beat 42-7 after McCort called the dogs off.)

I understand what you are saying with that, but you are solely taking what Portage did. A conference is not about the best team in it, its about all around. I agree that the WestPac has the worst bottom section in the state. But you need to realize that winning D6 A is tough. You have 4 different conferences with their top teams in it.
It fluctuates every year between each conferences but if you look at it this year, WestPac is stronger at the top.

North Star-Mo Valley
No argument, the WestPac is deeper than the ICC at the top of the conference.

CT-Homer Center
Portage-United
Windber-Marion Center
North Star-Northern Cambria
Once again, WestPac is better. They could probably sweep these guys actually.
