You can't argue attendance with a Pitt fan, bud. In football, it's only because of Pitt did we have our record set. Just ask them, they'll tell you. Pitt is stuck between 3 major state universities. They'll never be huge. Just realize that and go from there.
That’s a bit off.  Pitt basketball had one of the top home court advantages for 15 years and now they are drawing 2,000 crowds.  There’s an obvious problem and it is directly linked to the coach and the bad play the pst few seasons.  Pitt made a terrible hire, everyone knew it when it happened and it’s playing out about as well as anyone could have predicted.

Basketball and football are two different things anyway. The football attendance issue is generally blown out of proportion because Pitt’s rival is obsessed with talking about it.

Football attendance issue is absolutely NOT blown out of proportion. Last season Pitt played a top 5 team in the country and I could have attended the game for less than the cost to get into most junior high football games in the area. Literally the entire upper deck of a 64,000 seat stadium was completely empty. THAT IS A PROBLEM! They have had home primetime games against a top 15 VT and #2 Miami in the last 2 years in which the actual attendance couldn’t have been 25,000. You do realize that if those same teams visited a MAC school a school like Miami (OH) would have had more people attend?
This has been part of Pitt’s athletic program problem that I have seen.  They continue to turn a blind eye to major attendance issues, horrible coaching hires, and mediocre (at best) performance across both of their major sports. Their fanbase goes off the deep end if any media member dare call these shortcomings out or heaven forbid speak of PSU in a positive light.
Or some act like it isn’t an issue. It is an issue. Your competitors are generating millions and millions of more revenue than you are. Pitt fans continue to make excuses (Pirates are good, Kennywood has cheap fall passes, Pittsburgh has just soooo much to do). They like to say that cities schools just don’t have good attendance but Columbus, OH seems to do just fine. Or schools in Houston, TX or Orlando, FL.  Next Pitt fans usually say “well, Miami has bad attendance.” True but Miami also gets to recruit the most prospect fertile area of the country.

As I was saying, Pitt’s rival is more concerned than Pitt is and are willing to highjack a thread about basketball over it.

If Pitt’s stadium was 45,000 like most Pitt fans want in a perfect world, than the attendance issue wouldn’t really be there.  Heinz is just a little too big for Pitt, that’s all it really is.

But again. “Basketball”.

I wasn’t the one that brought football attendance into the thread. Plus it’s a message board, not a term paper. If users want to wonder a little off the thread topic 50 posts in, its really not a big deal.
