Was that similar to Pitt's "No wins against a D1-A team until October" philosophy?

V-MAN-
Lets look and see who Penn State is playing in '06.
-Top 5 Ohio State
-Top 5 Notre Dame
-Top 10 Michigan
-Top 25 Wisconsin
-Top 25 Minnesota (Maybe a little bit out of Top 25)
Now lets look at Pitt:
-Top 5 Notre Dame
-Top 5 WVU
-Top 20 Louisville (The most overrated team in the preseason each year).
I see a much more difficult schedule for Penn State than Pitt.

abpk, Do you really need me to post your OOC schedulke again! C'mon, its laughable and I won't do it! But your "playing the big" chest pumping is not what it seems! Let me illustrate, look @ schedules from '98 thru '04; UPSs record vs TOP 20 teams was a whopping 0 for 12 !!
That's right a 7 Year Bagel! You did manage 2 face saving big wins last year. And you thought I made-up this underachieving stuff! Keep talking about how good your conference is; every time you play someone half decent YOU LOSE!!!No wonder your ooc games are all stiffs sans ND, for the next 4/5 yrs.
And you point out ND is top 10; well guess what, recent history tells us one thing; uhh, you'll lose!
And your Louisville dig is way off. In '04 they outplayed Miami(huge statistical edge and lead throughtout), in Fla, only to lose on a Hester (I believe) punt return! Guess what, I think that was their only blemish and they got slighted by BCSers...they were an offensive power and UNDERRATED! This team should have been playing for the national title 2 yrs ago!

Ahead of Auburn? Louisville was in Conference USA, vman. And you know I am the first person on here to stand up for C-USA or any mid-major, but there is just no comparison between an undefeated SEC squad and a team in Conference USA.
But once again, vman goes back to his backwoods, hillbilly philosophy: Louisville ALMOST beat Miami. OHHHH I see it all clearly now: this is the exact same argument for who???? NOTRE DAME. Notre Dame ALMOST beat USC. Louisville ALMOST beat Miami. Germany ALMOST beat Russia. Shawn Michaels ALMOST beat Razor Ramon in that ladder match at WrestleMania 10. And last but not least... PITT ALMOST BEAT OHIO.
What the hell school of thought do you come from when you give sports teams a victory for a loss? You must be the same bozo that was running around naked screaming excitedly about how good Fresno State was because they almost beat USC. Lots of teams almost beat USC! Guess what, only 1 team did!!! You saw how good Fresno and Oregon and ND did come bowl season!
Louisville is 100% overrated because Bobby Petrino's recruiting classes are terrible. For them being such a great program, they have NOTHING in those incoming classes. Petrino, along with being the absolute shadiest man in college football, won all those games with players recruited by John L. Smith. Louisville didnt have too good of a season last year. You know why? Because John L. Smith's players are graduating.
Last year, Louisville hung a lot of points on bad teams... but let's not forget the game that made USF the national power you Big Easters think they are: USF over mighty Louisville 45-14.

Some valid points re. Louisville but they were very good in 04.
More interesting however, is your ongoing avoidance of fact:
from '98 thru '04; UPSs record vs TOP 20 teams was a whopping 0 for 12 !! That's right a 7 Year Bagel! And you want to minimize a great game by Louisville 2 years ago and a valiant ND effort in '05(maybe the best & most entertaining games) each year! UH, I don't think you almost won any of those 12 consecutive big games! You may have cried about calls a bit and accosted an official or 2 but you lost every big game for 7 YEARS!
Are you seeing the bigger picture now? Are you internalizing the meaning of UNDERACHIEVING?? Bozo??? I ain't clowning around!

I start on Louisville, he brings up Penn State.
Yeah, PSU had some seasons where they needed to make adjustments. The offense needed to be changed, so they brought in Galen Hall. But let's not forget that the offense worked for 50 years. We also had a guy replacing someone who was maybe the best d-coordinator in the land. When Bradley got the defense back on track, and Hall was allowed to call the offense, PSU went to a BCS game.
In 2002, PSU went 9-3 in the regular season and lost to Auburn 13-9 in that bowl game. Combined total points for those 4 losses was 20 points. They were 3 whole games over .500 and still you guys act like that were terrible.
Like I always said on here... PSU's recruiting and attendance did not suffer through these "bad seasons". The easiest problem to fix was on the field, and they did that.

Nebraska was ranked #7 I believe when PSU played them (and won) in 2002, as was Wisconsin ranked in the top 20 when PSU played them and won in Madison.
Vman's likely response: "Well, they didn't finish in the top 20."
I guess because USC finished #2 this year that Texas cannot take credit for beating the #1 team.
Not to mention, but also in 1999 PSU beat Miami at the Orange Bowl (Miami a top 10 ten that finished top 15), and PSU beat A&M in their bowl game, who was a top 20 team at the time who finished 20th in the AP poll.
Get your facts from pantylair.com huh?

Pitt not beating a I-A team until October last year certainly isn't a philosophy, a way of thinking. But JoePa scheduling weaklings as non-conference opponents ALL at home is a philosophy. And this philosophy serves 3 purposes. 1) Brings in alot of money for PSU because their fans will go to see just about anybody play at home. They're not particular who's playing as long as they can party in the parking lot. 2) Gets those young players a few games under their belt before they go on the road, or play someone who is a bit of a challenge, and 3) As was the case with E.Z. Smith and Dan Connor last year, when a PSU player gets in trouble over the summer, PSU can give them a token punishment in the early part of their schedule when they are really not needed, then bring them back just in time for the REAL season to start. You know, looks good in the public relations department. That, my friend, is a philosophy.

So basically if PSU fills 109,000 seats, you complaining about all these partiers in the parking lot just makes the fanbase look even bigger.
