Re: Home Freaking Run
Big relief out of Pitt fans on that hire, as Smith will be the WR coach at PSU and not Bobby Engram. Not sure if there were any traction to those rumors or just Pitt fans just waiting for the worst to happen, but Pitt could not afford to lose Engram.
Speaking of dominating the state, Alex Paulina picked Pitt to be their first recruit for 2015. 6-3 290 OL from Cannon-Mac HS in Pittsburgh. Pitt and Va Tech were his only reported offers to date. I expect him to be a fringe 4 star, or just a solid 3 star OL recruit by all the sites.
The big fish in PA next year would be Sterling Jenkins, Jordan Whitehead, and Andre Robinson. I could see all three leaving the state, but Pitt and PSU will be in it until the end.

Re: Home Freaking Run
From what I heard, Smith wasn't going to BE the WR coach. Although Smith was the WR coach at Temple, Franklin already has his WR coach promised to someone else. Smith will be given some other post. They want him mainly for recruiting purposes in SW Pa. After all, he was at Gateway for 11 years.

Nope he's DB coach

My bad, just assumed he was keeping the same position. So clearly, they just want him on the staff just to bring a Western PA recruiting presence.

Here's the problem with Terry Smith recruiting western PA: The majority of coaches cannot stand him. As far as I am concerned I am glad PSU got him.

Terry Smith will be the DB coach. I was hoping for Engram because of age and he was a well spoken player for PSU. I don't think it ever got very far in trying to get Engram to PSU. I heard he is happy at Pitt.
The WR coach at PSU is Josh Gattis. He just turned 29 and is a heck of a recruiter. He has pulled kids into Vandy with offers from Alabama, Georgia, Arkansas, etc. Here is a video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8f0csVsA0NA I feel pretty stoked about Penn State's recruiting ability moving forward. Lots of top notch and young recruiters. Most of the staff is under 45.
Paulina is a nice pickup for Pitt. I never heard of him until yesterday. I am sure he will get some offers from OSU, PSU, and Michigan. Will be interesting to see if he stays committed of flips like what seems to be 75% of kids anymore. Pitt is placing a lot of importance on city of Pittsburgh Olinemen. Not exactly a hotbed for successful linemen.

What about Bates or Adams in PA? Or Fitzpatrick out of New Jersey
Re: Home Freaking Run
Pitt has 3 OL verbals for this year. Two from the Pittsburgh area. Both are 4 star players. Guess that isn't too bad.

Yep and the rest of their class is littered with 2 star recruits and ranked 40th in the country. I'm just saying Pittsburgh High schools have a history of linemen not working out. Penn State has had many 4 and 5 star linemen recruits from the burgh that were soft as butter. Bisnowaty and Dorian Johnson looked lousy this year for Pitt. I would say linemen are the toughest prospects to judge at a young age.
