You guys read my example of the squeeze play that I just presented. I read all your excuses of why it's OK to go for two with a BIG lead. Kicker is hurt, needing practice for future 2 point conversion attempts, it's only the first half, etc etc. Just doesn't wash with many fans. Heck, why don't coaches who have big leads try onside kicks, fake field goal attempts, fake punts, double reverses, and all other kinds of trick plays just to get in some practice plays. And what's the difference WHO the opponent is? Doing it for some strategic reason is one thing (to get to the running clock, for example) but for a head coach just to call this type of play under similar circumstances is still Bush League.

Going for two equates to scoring on a sacrifice fly or a passed ball, not a squeeze play

Here's my opinion on this. The game is a game and it is up to the opponent to stop you. It's not rubbing it in if the other team also is still trying. If one side put the JV in so should the other team losing or not. Don't try to pick up some cheap scores with your Varsity to make the game seem closer to outsiders.

I wasn't there and don't know the circumstances but Somerset was the better team. Either you man up and stop them or submit with the JV. Going for 2 in the coaches eye may have been doing Forest Hills a favor. At least it was a play they had a opportunity to stop.

Here's MY opinion on this: By definition, "rubbing it in" is when a coach or team, commanding a big lead, runs plays INCONSISTANT with it's regular offense, therefore considered as poor sportsmanship. Now answer this question. Does Somerset routinely/often go for two after each touchdown? If the answer is NO, then they were rubbing it in.

Nobody is going to agree with you so you might as well just give it up.

Does anyone know if Somerset went for a planned 2 point conversion with a BIG lead during their slaughter of BC on opening night in Somerset?

knowitall: Are you serious? There is NO comparison between a squeeze play, and a sac fly or a passed ball. They are TOTALLY different. A squeeze play is a 100% PLANNED play called by the manager. A passed ball is definitely NOT planned by anyone. They just happened. And MOST sac flies are generally the result of a player not succeeding in getting a hit. Planning a 2 point conversion in a huddle or on the sidelines is DIFFERENT than getting 2 points when an extra point attempt mishandled and is luckily run in for the score. Please rethink your comparison.

Week 2 Surprises?

Post by Skippy »

If you're up 12 do you need to tag up or advance. Is it not planned to run home once the ball is hit in the air? What difference does it make in football if you lose by 30 or 31....nothing? I think it's more insulting for a team to take a knee on a conversion. I would bet not one player cared they went for 2.

Thank you Skippy. There is NO difference between 30 or 31. That's what I've been saying. If there is NO advantage or difference, why would you go for 2, unless you we're trying to rub it in. Thanks for seeing it my way, Skippy.

Have we not settled this? I am quite sure Don Bailey has run up a score. Move on...next week the situation might be reversed. At least they didn't put up 87 against you like one weekend score I saw
