Why is that necessarily a guarantee? There won't BE two sides. Right now, no one plays everyone in the league anyway. It's random who a team is excluded from playing in the other division. It could be just random who you don't play with NO divisional play. Every team will have teams left off their schedule. PSU did not play Wisconsin, Nebraska, NW. That is randomly done. So what's the difference. Just take the best two teams out of 14 and go with it. Then the winner is the champ.

Coach "You almost have to have divisions when you have 14 teams though. That way you can guarantee someone has played everyone on their own side."
As Moldy pointed out, it's random now anyway so what's the difference.  If they have two divisions why are they counting non-divisional games in the standings?  If you want to compare apples to apples, which I believe is Coach's point, then don't count out of division games and then we have a 3-way tie in the Big Ten East (Michigan's loss to Iowa would not count) and then either pt. differential (Michigan) or highest rated team (Ohio St) would be the East's representative....if the Big Ten TRULY had SEPARATE divison champions.

I agree with roadie. If you want to have divisions you should only count division games.

Otherwise maybe 1 team gets an easy schedule for the oppossing division, (penn st), while others might get harder ones, (mich and ohio st).

Penn State played 2nd place Iowa and 4th place Minnesota from the west. How is that an easy crossover schedule?

You always throw out this stuff that isn't even remotely true.

1. Alabama
2. Ohio State
3. Washington (Assuming they win Pac 12 championship)
4. Wisconsin (assuming they win Big 10)
OUTSIDE LOOKING IN / NEEDING HLEP (in no particular order):
Oklahoma
USC
Michigan
Penn State
Louisville
Clemson

The only 2 "locks" are Alabama and Ohio State.  If Washington and Wisconsin lose the championship games, it's totally up in the air.  I think one thing that can be put to rest is the SEC being the best conference in NCAA football.  I think the Big 10 owns those bragging right currently, with 4 teams who could possibly make the playoffs.  Granted some need more help than others, but there's 4 teams "in the mix".

Please explain to me why Wisconsin continues to have a better ranking than Penn State.

Their best win is against who?

Unranked LSU, No. 22 Iowa, Minnesota or Nebraska at home?

Well mich played #1 and #2 in the other division. So how is playing 2 and 4 not easier than playing 1 and 2. Especially when penn state had both games at home and mich had 1 home and 1 road.

Because their 2 losses were very close games against mich and ohio state.
Penn state got blown out by mich and lost to pitt. Thats my guess

Clemson Is in if they win Saturday. There's really no way around that.

This statement is both true for wash and clemson.
Thougj washington might be able to jump over clemson. Pac 12 slowly has 3 teams in the top 10 and 4 in the top 20. A win vs #9 colorado may help them jump clemson. Especially with louisville falling so hard as of late
