Hey gents, really am loving the history of this sport in the area and am looking at compiling a list of sorts with teams' histories.

Next topic is upsets…

Let me start off with possibly one of the biggest.. in '04 D6 champs Tyrone vs WPIAL Seton La Salle. Tyrone physically took it to Seton at East Allegheny HS after the Rebels got on the board first with an early score. With Bill Stuhl at QB for Seton and the all-time leading WR in WPIAL history the D7 champs were viewed as a lock for Hershey with Tyrone being a minor bump in the road.

Final Score:

Golden Eagles 28
Seton La Salle 7
IF you would have read my "looking back" post you would realize that I have this done already. I was just missing 2 games  since 1985. Hopefully either District 6 or Westernpafootball will be able to post it soon.

I call it the one that got away. Or perhaps 2.  2007 and 2008 Central Cambria upsets #1 seed Tyrone in the semi finals 21-10 and 27-20. 2008 was particularly tough considering the following week, Central puts a beating on the Red Devils in the final 41-6, after Tyrone stomped that District champion in week 10,   38-14

Central then plays eventual state champ Wilmington to a 21-19 final.

and thats why they play the game

Homer Center's defeat of BG goes right to number one.

I can’t call this the biggest upset in D6 history since people predicted this was the year BG wasn’t going to win D6.

Who predicted that? Some predicted its winning streak would end but I believe the expectations were for a Greater Johnstown or a Forest Hills to beat them, not a lowly single public A school from the Heritage Conference.

Did Runk from Central get hurt in that game vs Wilmington?

Yeah was knocked out with a knee injury with 2 minutes to go in the 1st quarter. Shortly after just returning a kickoff to the Wilmington 23 yard line. That was a heartbreaker. 2 point conversion for the tie was knocked away with 32 seconds left. That was Central's first ever state playoff game. Runk was named 2nd team all state as a sophomore that year.
