McCort wrestling/athletic program gets probation.

^^^Well said.
Re: McCort wrestling/athletic program gets probation.
But when a student is about to leave 8th grade, and knows there is a petty good chance he will be a starter at his sport as a freshman, wouldn't that be considered a transfer? Again, if BM would NOT have had a wrestling co-op with Westmont, would some of BM's good senior wrestlers (in this year's class) have stayed in their HOME school district back then to wrestle there? Would they instead have given up wrestling to attend that private school for other reasons?

So they'd be attending Westmont for athletic reasons?
Re: McCort wrestling/athletic program gets probation.
I'm no fan of McCort, but 9th graders entering high school are not transfers. If kids go to the McCort's of the world for 4 years and don't go back and forth to suit their needs, I have no problem with it. Those that end up at three schools in 4 years, well that is a problem. Those that find religion in the 11th or 12th grade, I can see why people get upset.
This is a moot point, because there may not be any Catholic schools in our area in 20 years if the enrollment keeps going the way it is.

Crimson, you missed the point of my question. Would those BM students I have been referring to, have NOT gone to BM if there was NO chance they would be wrestling in high school?
Re: McCort wrestling/athletic program gets probation.
As far as 9th graders are concerned, why aren't 9th graders considered transfers? Maybe they would not have been when 9th grade was considered junior high. BUT nowadays 9th graders are no longer junior high athletes. They are high school athletes. Are there 9th graders who can impact track, wrestling, softball, etc, etc?

No, it has more to do with the amount of money that alumni give back to the school to create opportunities for others.CCDevil2012 wrote:Maybe only because Catholic colleges offer discounts to these students. No other reason why. It's not like these kids are taking more difficult classes, I know for a fact that BC doesn't offer several classes that Central Cambria does because they don't have the equipment. And how much sense does it make to spend $6000 per year, $24,000 per high school career to avoid "not be burdened with a ton of financial debt". You can't plead that these kids don't get scholarships and they all pay and then turn around and make that statement. And so St. Francis knocks of say 25% of their tuition, it's still over $30k per year. Unless the kids grow up in the parochial system, I would gander that 9/10 transfers are athletes.Crushersports wrote:Dig deeper and look at the amount of college scholarship money that those kids get in comparison to public schools it's astronomically different. So parents are wrong for trying to get their kids to have a better life and not be burdened with a ton of financial debt.

Re: McCort wrestling/athletic program gets probation.
So if kids wrestle since their five years old they shouldn't be allowed to compete somewhere if their school dropped wrestling? That's moronic, all three are going to D-1 schools and getting probably at least half of their education paid for. Do you think the best kids at any sport at any school would stay at their school if that sport was dropped? More than likely not.El-Moldo wrote:Would this years 3 best wrestlers at McCort have gone to McCort the last few years if they wouldn't have had the co-op with Westmont? The answer is probably NO. Can you imagine them NOT wrestling? They would have stayed at a public school where they could have wrestled. Soooo...I bet they would have stayed at their home school. So much for transferring for athletics.

Besides the 8th Ward AC how many schools have started new wrestling teams in the past decade or so?

Well several schools have dropped football due to numbers and those kids didn't transfer.Crushersports wrote:So if kids wrestle since their five years old they shouldn't be allowed to compete somewhere if their school dropped wrestling?
