First of all gunner the classes who are currently passing through chestnut ridge are the biggest ever at the school.Look at the numbers over the years and 90% of the time bedford has a higher enrollment. Why didn't you list the number of girls at each school gunner, I'll tell you why because in the current sophmore class at ridge there is a 2 to 1 ratio of guys to girls. You are comparing current numbers let's look at the broader spectrum.Anyone could tell you that for the past 15 years bedford has had more kids. Some of the history you talk about in football and basketball is also misleading.Bedford has in the past had kids who attended hyndman on its football and basketball teams. You're the one who said bedford dominates in sports, there are male and female sports my friend and on the ladies side you're behind in track and field ,nbc has 15 combined county and district titles.Ridge has 14 and bedford has 11.Now thats hardly dominating considering nbc has one the smallest enrollments year in and out in the area.Thats 3rd place out of a 5 team field which bedford does in fact have the highest enrollment in the field.Again since 1965.I didn't talk about the other sports I said examples could be given and I'm sure someone will now come up with them. If your gonna heap all the sports in on your blanket statement know the facts. As far as state champions does bedford have any TEAM state champions? I give Bedford there credit ,they have had many quality atheletes over the years and still do.But so does every other county school in the area.Let's not try to make out that everyone else in the county is just a bunch of blundering idiots who bedford has steam rolled in all sports. Let's also not forget bedford wasn't always in the mighty LHAC.They were in little frail bedford county for alot of years playing all the smaller schools.Of course I'm sure you know that with your vast age and wisdom.

Just for clarification, I checked the PIAA website for enrollment of both boys and girls at both schools.

Bedford = 260 boys / 221 girls
C Ridge = 268 boys / 220 girls

Looks pretty darn even to me.

thank you jolly green....i guess 268 to 220 can be mistaken as 2-1

anyway, you keep reffering to girls track...1 of only 15 or so sports offered at bedford high. ok, so our girls track team hasnt dominated bedford county, that doesnt say squat about the rest of the schools atheletics though. if any sport can be mistaken for a schools "atheletic caliber" its usually football, and having an unbelmished record against the lions in that department, id say bedford would win that one outright.

now you ask me how many team state champs does bedford have? well let me answer that for ya...the exact same as EVERY school in district 5 with the exception of mcconnellsburg and their "team" track championship which was won single handidly by 1 person back in the 80's i believe. usually when you argue something, you make points that support your side of the argument, not random statements that have no affect at all on either side. but, im sure that being the "history" buff that you are, you know what your doing.

finally, yes i do know that bedford wasnt always in the LHAC, believe it or not. but would you like to start a list of all the undefeat against county opponent teams that the bisons had in those years. i garuantee you bedfords dominance was alot stronger when we were still in the BCL (thats Bedford County League...just incase you didnt know) than what it is now, simply because we played all the schools in all sports.

If Bedford had won this great and coveted cup, would you and Ham be questioning everything about it. I doubt it, because then it would have seemed only right to you guys. It doesn't make Bedford look the best with all of this complaining and whining. Have some pride in your school, stand up and say Bedford lost, and move on.

There are probably three sports that I would consider Bedford dominant in as far as Bedford County goes: football, wrestling, and golf. But in football, we have rarely played any county teams. We lost Everett in the late 80's/early 90's and picked up Ridge. We've played Tussey once in the last 25 years, and never NBC if I am correct in 25 years or so. I am only going back as far as my own memory takes me. NBC has had some good teams here and there that may have beaten Bedford. Either way give football to Bedford.
Wrestling is pretty much unquestionable until the last few years.
The golf team has been very good for 20+ years.

So there are three sports to Bedford. The rest of them are undecided.
Basketball (boys and girls) definitely not. Everett,Tussey,NBC, and Hyndman (boys at least) used to beat us regularly. BD has had a few good teams here and there, but I'm not sure they ever won a county title outright. I would rank them 4th overall in boys and maybe the same for girls. CR has had some good girls teams in the past.

Baseball, softball, tennis, track also do not go to BD. Track has been covered. Baseball and softball, I will admit to not knowing much about them. BD has always been strong in baseball, but so has Everett and NBC. I'm not sure who would have the advantage here. Softball would probably go to Everett. BD used to have very strong teams, but over the long haul, I would think one of the other county schools has been better.

At any rate, I'm posting this so that you don't diminish the accomplishments of the other county schools. I am a BD fan through and through, but I do not consider them to be the end all in county sports. I have seen some great athletes and teams from other schools in the county. In the early/mid 90's with Benbow/Eichelberger/the Nastasi boys/Pat Snyder/Ryan Wilt and the teams from Everett in Boys Basketball (forgive me HR for not remembering names), was probably the best time for local sports. You had your pick of Friday night football games and some great county bball games.

Forgot about soccer. Don't kill me Gunner. On this topic I would have to bow to your knowledge. As much as my wife wants me to like it, I haven't learned to yet.

As usual gunner you don't read before you write.I stated a 2 to 1 ratio in the sophmore class at ridge.Yeah as jolly green stated it is even this year, again as I stated look at the last 15 years. You'll see quite a difference.Seems to me in your earlier post and I quote"I don't see any state champs or hall of fame coaches coming from ridge."Seems you can't name a team champ from the bisons either.Like you said why bring up points that don't support your argument. You're the one who implied bedford has all these state champs. You also need to look at the heading your under my friend this is a track and field forum,so more than likely your going to hear talk about track and field.I am very aware who won state titles in distict 5 gunner I was competing in district 5 many years before you were born.McConnelsburg has district 5 track bragging rights and everyone should know it.They also had a state runner up team in track and field to go along with the Kim Spriggs show, who by the way I got to see compete in high school. Also since you mention girls track is the only thing I talk about maybe you should look up the county and district champions for the past 15 years on the boys side.I bet the supposed "Bedford Dominance " isn't what you think it is. As far as BCL days gunner, I think before you start talking about something you"ve only heard about and not played in I would think hard before I speak. There were lots of dominant teams in BCL history, but you probably wouldn't remember you were probably drooling on your bib in those days.

I believe McConellsburg girls also won a state championship in basketball around 1990.

What does that past matter, what matters is that the results from this year don't add up to what the "Cup" says. Why did my question about football go unanswered? Where are the points for that medal they have? What would one playoff win have done in football? If Bedford had beaten Jeanette in basketball in interdistricts, would that have mattered? Quit arguing about the past, it's over, and unless you find hard numbers and stats, the bickering is worthless...

bedftbllham: "add up to what the "Cup" says. Why did my question about football go unanswered? "

Re-read the post on the co cup rules. The district medals were given to the team that came out on top of the ratings. Their is no "on-field" tournament. I believe the cup rules state that a subregional (the D5-6 AA football tournament being one) is used in lieu of a district competition that does not take place. Same is true in Cross Country.

Bedford Was NOT named overall LHAC champions. They are Section Champions in the LHAC they do not have an overall championship.

McConnellsburg did win a girls state basketball title as Once a runner stated in either 90 or 91. Other District 5 teams have been close. In basketball Rockwood, Shanksville (twice), Conemaugh Twp, and Windber have lost in the state championship game. Locally TM (twice) in Boys BB and NB and Everett once each in girls basketball have been in the final 8 in the state. Going one step further Hyndman has two State Semifinal appearances and Everett has one in the history of those schools.

NB's baseball team and softball teams each have one Western Final appearance....1 game from the state championship game.

NB and Bedford (once each) have appeared in State football quarterfinals (final 8).

Sorry If I'm missing anyone else...There may be another Softball or Baseball team out there that got to the final 8 but that's a pretty complete listing of TEAMS who were on the threshold of being a state champion or runnerup.

Oh quit your whining. Winning the LHAC would have given you one more point, and from what I can see, that wouldn't have been quite enough. Besides, you lost to another LHAC, a 6-3 (or perhaps even 5-4) in the playoffs, so how much you deserve that title is up to question. Just like the Steelers were the champions of the NFL last year by compiling a 15-1 record, and beating every team they played. However, when the time came to PROVE that they were NFL champion material, they fell 2 TDs short of the New England Patriots. That tells me they weren't quite NFL champs, just like Bedford losing to Central Cambria in the first round tells me they weren't quite LHAC champs.

I think he was referring to LHAC regular season conference champions, which head roadie has told us fails to even exist.

What happens in the playoffs and what happens in the regular season are two entirely different things. Bedford beat that very same CC team -- a very good team that didn't fit the stereotypical mold of a #8 seed-- in the regular season.
