Do the Catholic schools recruit ???
The players you refer to on this post are CHILDREN, not professionals, try to keep that in mind.
Funny. I thought they were young adults. Are they still children when the step on the field at the college level? Get a grip.
As far as the academic standing of McCorts' Wadley, what business is it of ANYBODY as to what that child does in school?
Does he play a sport? Does he inject himself into the public by choosing to play a sport? Isn't it ironic that he just became eligible again for the BIGGEST game at the most important time of the year? The answer to all those is yes. If Joe Schmo fails english and plays no sports, we don't care, and don't need to know. If a STUDENT-ATHLETE fails english, match, science, he should be suspended and we should all know why that is. See how that STUDENT part comes first there?
Lastly, if you think that we're all blowing smoke up your butt about all these false allegations, go and re-read all these posts that actually have substance, not just saying "WE DON'T RECRUIT, YOU'RE JUST MAD BECAUSE WE'RE BETTER THAN YOU, HAHAHAHAHA!!!!" sidelinecoach has said that he was once asked to go to McCort for free if he played football and basketball. Coincidence? I think not. What about Troy and Derrick Harris? Eh Pappy? Let me guess, they were close enough to J-town to choose between Richland, J-town and McCort. Right? Wrong. They were stand out athletes who were incredible on any field they stepped on. BOTH ACTIVELY RECRUITED BY MCCORT. Get off your high horse. Go take a cold shower and get ready to watch your L in the District title game tonight.

Troy, this argument is not specific to your area. If you attend statewide games, especially the state championships, it is rampant discussion. You cant dispute the numbers brought up in the above post. Just face the facts that private schools have a distinct advantage and live with it. Our area is in fact unique, that teams like Westmont Girls, JHS Boys and FH have been consistently winning..(not so much JHS Boys but they did make the title hoops game last year). In other areas..teams such as Erie Prep, Villa win constantly.

I was specifically referring to Bishop McCort recruiting. No one was able to answer my question directed at the general audience as to why all these allegations aren't backed up by concrete evidence. If in so the Harris boys were "actively recruited" to attend McCort, why hasn't somebody done anything about it ? Why if you despised a system, wouldn't you report the proper people? To Mr. Old Sport, why would you bring religion to the table? Never once did I refer to my religious origin. As to being interested in the academic progress of one Mr. Della Wadley, I find it REMARKABLE that out of hundreds of STUDENT-ATHLETES, his is the FIRST deficiency that I have read about on this message board. All the schools in this area must have brilliant teachers and a 100% graduation rate. Those players are CHILDREN as long as they are in high school. When you "step on the college playing field", those players signed a contract to play at that school. THEY are PERSONNALLY responsible for their actions from there on in. The only intelligent response came from Sideline coach. My question has to deal with rectifying an "ALLEGED" problem in this area, not to take potshots at someones' religious affiliation. Have other states instituted a specific classification for private schools? The city of Pgh. has their own league and championships. The city of Philadelphia has a parochial league all the way to the high school level. If McCort actively recruits, can you honestly say they made a wise choice in their secondary?

To bdftbllham55, I thought Wadley was academically suspended for the first Forest Hills game. To give the McCort team home field advantage during the playoffs, they needed to win that one, correct? Yet , he sat out for two more games, possibly the biggest one against Bedford, or did he play? I also thought there would be a little more pride in the Greater Johnstown area as far as supporting the team that represents your area once they advanced further than your own team. If McCort advances any further beyond tonite, you would seriously cheer for them to lose? I try to teach my kids, that if a team beats you and goes on to win big, they actually are a pretty good team.(ie Tyrone last year) I don't own a horse to get off of, there's no need to become defensive.
Re: Do the Catholic schools recruit ???
I believe the issue here is whether Mccort, or any private school for that matter, has an advantage that public schools do not. I think it obvious that they do in that they are not limited by geographical boundaries as to who can attend there. Does that make them a better team? Well, their kids still have to go out and prove it on the field. If you measure that by successive winning seasons, I guess they are successful. If you measure it by D-6 championships or performing in the state playoffs, I'd have to say they are not.
As far as the scholarships or sponsorships or recruiting: the question is do non-Catholic non-athletes have access to the same tuition reduction that the non-Catholic athletes have. While I know that there is a financial aid form that students complete, there is in addition to that, these so called sponsorships. My question is , other things being equal, (ie income, # of students attending private school, expenses etc.)does a student who does not participate in sports but who just wants to go there for what they perceive to be a better education have the same opportunity to receive a scholarship/sponsorship as a good athlete does.
There have been names thrown around of athletes who pay little or nothing to attend there. Are there non-athletes who get the same opportunity?
Either way, the game will be played tonight and it should be a good one. Good luck to both squads!

Who would you like us to report it to. The PIAA? They know that private schools have an unfair advantage and don't do or can't do anything about it. Supposedly all Catholic schools were in their own league back in the day ( how long ago I have no idea) and then the state legislature stepped in and said whoa this isn't fair we have to include anybody who wants in the PIAA. Coming from a bunch of clowns that illegally vote themselves a pay raise and don't see anything wrong with it what do you expect. So I quess all the public school people need to call their state representitives and complain. Like that'll do any good.

Troy...why do you and others feel the OVERWHELMING NEED to keep to trying to defend yourself????? Fact is, 70% of the state championships are won by St. Whatever....do you not see the injustice in that??? Are you and others willing to say it is just chance??? PLEASE do not bore us with the same old harang....and to all my fellow posters, be careful...musn't make these folks mad...look what happened to LH Sports. Just my opinion.

Re: Do the Catholic schools recruit ???
I'm glad that "Troy Polamalu" has taken the time from his busy NFL career to post with us.
Yeah they're children until they step off the field and do something illegal. Then you people want 16-17 yr old kids treated as adults. Which is it?

After reading sidelinecoach's post on what happen to him, here are my thoughts. Every year, hundreds and hundreds of people see UFO's. So, there must be something to it, right? Can ALL these people be wrong? And every year, hundreds and hundreds of people see ghosts. So there must be something to it, right? Are all these people making up these stories? And by the same token, year after year we hear similar stories like the one that sidelinecoach told us about being contacted by parochial schools. Must be something to THAT too, right? Why would these people not tell the truth?
