Re: Penn State @ Pitt
Yeah Pitt has a lot of things working against them, and they are still a top flight program. As I said, Jamie Dixon has been on the short list for any major college job opening the past however many years.
Great coaches typically aren't great off the bat, Dixon has had a large amount of success in a lot of regards, and more will come his way before it's all said and done.

Re: Penn State @ Pitt
Just 5 years ago Pitt was considered to be the best school when it came to recruiting in NYC. How many NYC kids came to pitt? Ohio state succeeds more than Pitt and their right next door. To say Pitt is just not in a good recruiting bed is ridiculous.... Heck how many kids even end up in going across county to play? Its all about exposure in the tourney and going far. Pitt hasnt gotten anywhere further than 1 elite 8 performance
Re: Penn State @ Pitt
Yes, Eddie D is no longer with PSU. But HE set the precedent for not scheduling Pitt anymore. It's up to Penn State if the series continues. Pitt hasn't missed them. Maybe Pitt should ask for a 2 for 1 home series, like PSU wants in football.
Re: Penn State @ Pitt
konjo, you're beating a dead horse. You're basing EVERYTHING on how far a team goes in the final 64. Year after year you see good NFL, NHL, college football teams, etc NEVER goes as far as they think they should. But in the Final 4 tournament, 56+ teams NEVER make the elite 8. That's just the way it is. It's all or nothing for EACH game you play in the tournament. There is NO best of 3, or best of 5. If last year Duke would have played 5 games against Lehigh, they would have won 4 of them. But that's the way it is. A four game hot streak at the right time can get you into the finals. So harping on how far you get in the NCAA tournament means nothing. Give it up.

Re: Penn State @ Pitt
When was Pitt EVER considered a better recruiting threat in NYC over UConn and Syracuse? And furthermore, Pitt has never won with elite talent.
El Moldo is right, you aren't getting anywhere with the tournament success angle. As I've said before, there are so many things that have to come together to make the elite 8. Pitt isn't a bad program for not reaching it the past few seasons. Jamie Dixon isn't on the hot seat, thats just what it is.

The amount of people who were surprised that Dixon got an extension and not the can was a lot. He has made the program worse than when he started. And to say it means a lot making the tourney well he missed one two years Ago and barely made one last year. To say he is ice cold is dillusional. Especially just last march it was known that he was on the hot seat.

They were never on the bubble, they finished 4th in the Big East, a conference that regularly takes 8-9 tournament teams.konjo78 wrote:and barely made one last year.

Re: Penn State @ Pitt
When howland left Pitt had teams who could win and make it far in tourney. Yes Jamie had success but 5 of his 9 seasons he hasnt made a sweet 16 and now the program is starting to go down hill? They just beat an average Penn state by 9 points at home! What was the line on this game?
Re: Penn State @ Pitt
Name 15 programs in the country that are better than Pitt. I'm serious, try it. (Hint: you can't)
Furthermore, name 15 coaches that are better than JD. (Hint: you can't)

What was the line on the Vermont/Duke game? Or the Belmont/UNC game?
