Proposed 6 Classifications?
Could someone please explain more about the proposed 6 classifications for football? Are the actual divisions set up already with schools mentioned? How will playoffs be affected? I was just wondering what the landscape of District 6 football will look like.
Thanks for the help,

Here a link that will tell you what classification the D6 teams will fall into. http://blog.pennlive.com/keystone-sport ... icati.html There will probably be less teams in each classification that make it into the playoffs.

Re: Proposed 6 Classifications?
The six class system is a good move for District 6. It gives D6, which is mostly made of small schools more qualifiers in the state playoffs. The plan also ends football season one week earlier.
The proposal should pass despite D7's (WPIAL) objection to the proposal. Hopefully the votes stay and the plan is adopted in 2010. Regular season schedules are not affected by the proposal. D6 meets tomorrow. Check the site to see if there are any changes to the plan.

What’s next...not keeping score during games, everyone plays, no all-star team, you do not have to attend practice and everyone gets a ribbon for playing. While the PIAA is at it why don't they change their name to PIAAYSO.

Re: Proposed 6 Classifications?
LHAC will join the WPIAL and pull out of the PIAA. All schools remaining in the PIAA will have to abide by a "must play rule". Winning will not determine who makes states, but whether a team understands the concept of the game. It will be nice and touchy feely.

Re: Proposed 6 Classifications?
This was my post from an earlier iteration of this subject.
If you look at how things break out, the idea of creating conferences in Districts 5 & 6 that are virtually all the same classification (without a huge amount of travel) becomes somewhat realistic. For example:
In "3A West," there are 7 schools
School Enrollment
Somerset 308
Forest Hills 300
Central Cambria 258
Penn Cambria 246
Westmont 246
Cambria Heights 241
Richland 238
In "3A East," there are 7 schools
School Enrollment
Bedford 272
Lewistown 322
Huntingdon 289
Central 271
Tyrone 267
Bald Eagle Area 262
Phillipsburg Osceola 250
You could put these two groups together to form a "super conference" of 14, where each team plays 4 of the 7 in the other section each year (similar to current LHAC). Or you could make two conferences of 8 teams by adding Johnstown (4A) to the West, and Bellefonte or Indian Valley (both 4A) to the East. That would allow three "out of conference" games with anyone. The possibilities are similar with 2A. With the 1A classification, there would be 24 teams in Districts 5 & 6, so it would seem that some version of 3 leagues consisting of 8 teams each would work there.

If you don't know where you're going, you'll probably end up somewhere else.
