That is a common narrative about Archer.  His ERA is reflective of pitching against the Yankees and Red Sox.  What about his other 23 or so starts?

The 2 are not even comparable. Edwin Jackson struck out more than 160 twice in his entire career (highest was 181).  Archer has done so 4 times in 6 years including 3 years over 200.  To compare the 2 is ridiculous.

Either way, the Pirates have two pretty good ones with Taillon and Archer. Musgrove seems like a decent #3/4 starter. I think Trevor Williams has been serviceable. Kingham and Kuhl both show flashes from time to time. Heading into next season, things seem a lot clearer (and better).

Deal helps now, also helps beyond these next two months - they'll trot out a respectable team next year it seems.

At least the Pirates didn’t subtract. Archer would be elsewhere if he was better. Pirate fans who hated Cole aren’t going to like Archer.

After giving its fans the finger for the past 2 1/2 years these trades were a good olive branch to win many back. It’s apparently working. Now if the Pirates go 1-5 in the next six games?

Archer would be elsewhere if teams outbid the Pirates.  Why aren’t fans going to like Chris Archer? He’s a fan favorite in Tampa.

And no one bothered, including teams that will make the postseason.

That means he has eleven fans!
