Not sure why football is being discussed in the Baseball thread, but there are many schools just D6 that do not have enough players to field a JV baseball team. So the choice becomes playing some varsity players on the JV squad or not playing JV games (and therefore not developing your future varsity players).
I can't say I have ever run across a coach playing a varsity kid in JV contests just to get a W in any sport.
