I Love Double-Standards.

Post by The Ancient Enemy »

Notice how when Texas comes back from a three TD deficit to win the game, all the talk is of how great Texas is, and how great Vince Young is. Notice how much press Northwestern received, then lost to a good opponent, and dropped out of the top 25. All of a sudden, Northwestern no longer exists and totally sucks. So Northwestern comes back and wins a game, FROM A THREE TD DEFICIT, and all the talk is of how bad Iowa is. Maybe, just maybe, what was important in the Texas victory was not how good Texas is, but how BAD Oklahoma State really is. Judging by the media response after last week's game (Texas and oSu) you'd think Texas won 70-0, and did not give up 3-4 early TD's to the worst team in the Big 12. The media made sure that what was important was that Texas came back and won. Gotta love the double-standards with these voters!!!

Yeah, I know. Texas also couldn't come back from a 3 TD deficit to Georgia, Florida State, Miami, Virginia Tech, or any other team that had a top of the line defense. Nor could anybody, really. How did Texas come out so bad that they got in a huge hole with Oklahoma State? What I hated is how their coach, Mack Brown, BEFORE THE GAME, said, Ok boys, don't panic if we get in a huge hole or something like that, as he half expected them to get in a sticky mess like that. I have to wonder that if Mack Brown hadn't said that at all, if Texas would have come out and dominated the first half. Right there he gave them an excuse to get into a mess with the worst team in the Big 12!

Oklahoma State had jumped all over them the two years before this one. The game was at Oklahoma State, and they're in the Big 12 just like Texas. Road games in the Big 12 are like that. A team comes out fired up against the #1 ranked team in the nation at the time. You have nothing to lose. All that matters is that they won, and they won big. Who cares how much they were losing by? Also, I'm sure if Mack said go out and score 100 and don't let them score, that'd make a difference? I don't think so, Flea. He knew what was going to happen. He's seen it happen. That comment did not affect how they played the game at all.

I don't know if that affected how UT played the game, but either way, you don't give your guys an excuse to get dominated by the worst team in the Big 12 in the first half. If he had waited until halftime, and the score was close, he could say, don't panic, I thought this might happen, here's what we'll do, that's fine. But if he hadn't opened his mouth before the game, it might not have happened at all. Because his players subconsciously thought, well, it's alright to dig ourselves into a three TD hole.
Texas really had no excuse for coming out like that after seeing Baylor and Oklahoma.

Are you saying Oklahoma is not a good team? They'll be playing in a bowl game this season. They lost to three good teams. They lost to TCU, UCLA, and Texas. So, I hope you're not trying to say Oklahoma is a bad team.

They'll definitely be in a bowl game. They're set to make the top 25, actually.

They will be in the Top 25 if they win out. They've lost to quality opponents. If you can go the season with only 3 losses, and lose to TCU, UCLA, and Texas, you'll be in the Top 25.
