Wrong. The PIAAs definition of participating a year is 25% or more of a season. AW played a couple of JV games, that's it!

AW is a very close friend of mine and i cant even tell u if he played 25% of the season or not but it really doen't matter much now, but on the subject of gunby that is my cousin and of my recent knowledge he is going to stay at CV and finish up high school there so him comming to mccort is a false statement for sure.

Good point WJ74, I just felt for the young man and wish things would have been on the up & up @ the local hearing! But you must move forward!!

And lball5, there are only two eligibility rules/issues related to grade levels and such. I do have the link & copies of the pertinent sections @ work but the PIAA is easy to access and these rules are in the Constitution section, I believe.
Short version of the 2 rules is as follows: you have 6 yrs of eligibility after 6th grade & 4 yrs eligibility after 8th grade. In relationship to the first rule, the PIAA references that a student may be granted an extra yr of eligibility if in the yr in question the student participated in less than 25% of a season....and again, there were no if ands or buts that AW did not participate in a fourth of the BBall season his sophomore yr.!!

1. ARTICLE VIII
PERIOD OF PARTICIPATION
Section 1. Period of Participation.
A student shall not represent the student’s school in
interscholastic athletics if the student has:
A. Reached the end of the student’s fourth consecutive
year (8th consecutive semester or the equivalent) beyond the 8th
grade year, without regard to the student’s period of attendance;
B. Participated in six seasons beyond the sixth grade or
four seasons beyond the eighth grade in any sport; or
C. Completed the work of grades nine, ten, eleven and
twelve, inclusive.

2.Section 2. When A Student Participates In A Season.
A student is considered as representing the student’s school
during a particular season in a sport only if the student has
participated in a Regular Season or Postseason Contest in that
sport or any part of a Regular Season or Postseason Contest in
that sport.

3. Section 6. Waiver Of Sections 1A and/or 1B.
A. The District Committee may waive Sections 1A and/or
1B in cases of long-confining illness or injury which meet all of
the following requirements: (1) causes at least 60 days of
absence from school during the school year or semester which is
to be repeated, (2) causes the student to be confined to an
institution and/or at home for at least 60 school days during the
school year or semester which is to be repeated, (3)
necessitates repeating a school year or semester, and, for a
waiver of Section 1B, (4) the student participated in fewer than
25% of the maximum permitted number of Regular Season
Contests in the sport during the repeated school year or
semester.

So, the 25% rule appies to long-confining illness or injury, along with the other requirements.....was this the case?

Which sophomore year are you talking about. The one at JHS or the one at McCort?

As you see the 25% rule is only in effect if the is long term injury or illness. If it were not the case, coaches could "test" a kid out his sophomore year to see how he handles the varsity level. If they feel he is not ready, and they haven't reached the 25% point of the regular season, then let's hold him back so he can get three more years of high school sports.

If the young man was serious about school and academics, then I might feel sorry for him. But that is obviously not the case. So let's all move on.

The 7-year plan (to complete grades 7-12) is still a legal option with eligibility in grade 12 as long as
A.) The "extra" year is as a 7th or 8th grader
and B.) the athlete does not play that sport all three years he/she is in the wonderful years of 7th and 8th grade.

First of all as stated previously, I was for moving on... despite the false representation by a certain member of the D6 committee! He is the one who brought up the 25% issue in AW's 2nd yr @ JHS....conveniently after BM had presented their case and members were to vote!
