Re: Scrimmages

what cracks me up is when people say, richland 7, bedord 1; or cc over westy; cc over tyrone. they are scrimmages, no one wins or loses them. basically it is a practice and I don't know why anyone keeps score.

owen i agree with you to an extent...scrimmages are just practices...but teams "practice like they play"....a lot of information can be taken away from a scrimmage....qb ability...line play...how much "skill" their backs and wr's have...plus with the season only 2 weeks out...there is not much time to work on nessesities....on the other hand...it does not matter how well a team is playin at the beginning of the year as opposed to the end of the year....example: steelers of 2 years ago and last year....1 loss into playoffs vs 5? loss into the playoffs....losing second round as 1st seed vs winning super bowl as 6 seed...but if your trying to tell me richland is going to have a better year than bedford because of a "7 to 1" win...you're crazy....in the lhac you need a running game along with a passing game....wrapping it up...scrimmages give coaches and teams an idea on where they are and how far they need to come...

the LB was pulled out of formation to SINGLE cover the WR. Know what you say before you say it next time, Xylo.

I don't feel scrimmages mean a whole lot. Look at the NFL preseason. I have never seen Bedford look great in scrimmages. We always are very vanilla and not much emphasis is put on it.

With that being said. If Richland did score 7 touchdowns to Bedfords 1 I would be a little concerned. I wasn't there so I can't say from seeing anything. Even with missing some guys 7 to 1 is bad!!

It wasn't 7 to 1. Maybe with the JV involved... I really didn't keep that much track of the "score" on Saturday, but I know it wasn't 7 to 1...

Are you gonna be there Friday, lefteye? You'll get a good taste at what you're gonna see outta the Bison this year Friday vs. Westy.

my sources say 6-1 all varsity no jv tds ftbalplayer 55. yeaa well running a spread offense id say its a little hard to run the ball against 8 men in the box but yes im sure richlands offense will suck.....yeaa so everything will magically be revealed and mean sometihng in ur westy scrimmage but the last one meant nothing...

Might want to switch to decaf ham. I was replying to BackinBlack's post about their "let down" against FH last year.

Skipped those posts Xylo, my bad. Very similar discussion.

BTW, I don't drink coffee.

footballman07,

If Bedford were to play against Richland in the regular season, I'd imagine they'd have a better defense planned out to stop that offense. Since they won't have to worry about the likes of that offense until week 9 vs. Bishop Carrol, there is no reason to put those sets in now, when working on base D's and O's are essential.

I heard the exact same thing from Richland people last year when Richland handled Bedford very handily in the 2nd scrimmage, and how well did Richland do last season? How about Bedford?

I don't know about up on top of the mountain up there, but you don't game plan for a scrimmage. You make your reads out of your base D and O and play accordingly, at least at Bedford that's the way the scrimmages are handled on our side of the mountain. Learning the BASICS of the O and D are what scrimmage are for, and to see who can pick up and learn and perform the best so that you have an idea of who will be doing what at the begining of the season when the scores finally are kept.

So true "55". I imagine that D coordinators hate facing a run and shoot team in their first scrimmage. Their choice: spend time making major adjustments to your defense or covering sets with your base "D". The choice in week one has to be use you base sets and evaluate your kids. Don't know much about Bedford but i imagine that the regular season would bring different results.
