Patriot News State Rankings

Post by zonebreaker »

6 d6 girls teams ranked in the top 10- bishop guilfoyle (A-1), northern cambria (A-2), southern huntingdon (AA-4), Bishop McCort (AA-5), State College (AAAA-9), Ferndale (A-9). Should be a great year.

central cambria (boys AA - 10) is the only d6 boys team ranked.

I always love how Roxanne Moses ranks these teams when she:

#1 has never seen 98% of them play and,

#2 bases the rankings on last year's performances of each team.

These rankings are worthless.

However, they ARE DEFINITELY entertaining...They make for some laughter at the beginning of each basketball season...My personal favorite is when good ole Rox places teams in the top 10 when they have lost all 5 starters from the previous season.

Agree. I don't remember CC being ranked at the start of last season. Now they lose 4 starters and are number 10? Complete Joke

why not? it is hard for the d6 fans that follow boys sports to get this but compared with the rest of the state, d6 girls basketball is very strong. last year bg was clearly one of the best teams in A but played marian catholic (the eventual champion) in the quarters and lost in a close contest in which they had many chances to win. i actually think they were probably the best team last year in Single A not that that really matters other than making it harder for the BG faithful. BG certainly has some question marks this year and winning d6 isn't even a guarantee. But that's mostly b/c d6 is very strong. The district games often end up being harder than the first few rounds of the state playoffs. It's the opposite on the boys side (or maybe the boys just have that mentality... idk)

Didn't they answer those questions on the recruiting trail? If not then they have only themselves to blame!!

Of all the schools that have football in the state of PA, Bishop McCort is in the lowest fourth group in terms of students in grades 9, 10, and 11. Lowest fourth is Single A.

Of all the schools that have girls basketball (and boys basketball for that matter) in the state of PA, Bishop McCort is in the second of the four groups. The second lowest group is AA.

One reason for this difference is that there are small schools out there which have basketball and not football (schools like Harmony). These schools fill up the bottom fourth in basketball and push McCort up to AA in basketball. Since these schools aren't there in football, it moves McCort down to A. Same thing happened to Blairsville this sequence.
