So your basically saying that a 135 pound kid who isn't outstandingly quick, can dominate on the field with just skill?

Kevin Durant is playing incredibly well in the NBA, despite the fact that he can't bench press 185 pounds.

I know it's basketball, but still you always have to go with skill.

Better yet, how about we throw desire/intensity into the mix.

I'd rather have a kid who would die to win a game than a kid who is an above average athlete and afraid to take a hit.

That was not what this topic was about in the first place, its about when a team that is quick, or a team that is powerful, will be more effective this year in the LHAC...

YES!

The Rosenberger kid from FH is a great example. Not very big, not that fast, not that strong. But he is at the top when you are talking about WR's in the area last season. WHY?

1) hands- What good is speed and strength if you don't have the ball?
2) route running- what good is speed and strength if the person you're covering gets seperation from you due to precise route running and instincts
3) Desire
4) Experience

All 4 of these fall under the SKILL category IMO

I understand what you mean, i know that there are players like that, but what im talking bout is an entire team effecting the entire league...one kid can make an entire team... so yes everythign u said is correct, but its not the arguement of the topic.

I'd go with speed personally. If you can't catch the guy you're after it doesn't matter how strong you are or how big you are. It's all about how you move. And since this argument is Size vs. Speed definently Speed. If it would be Strength Vs. Speed it'd still be speed because to be fast you must be pretty strong or athletic anyway. I'm not sure of the point of this topic, you can tell it's February hahaha

Football is evolving from Bruisers to Athletes (which is a direct result of sport science: nutrition, training etc.) The main thing you used to need was a big bad fullback and now thats a dying position in a lot of offenses being run (atleast in the collegiate and professional levels). Now teams opt for a 3, 4, or even 5 WR set to spread it out to take advantage of lack of size. I think this is a vague question because you need to have size at some positions and speed at others. Ill take my linemen hefty with some good technique and Ill take my RBs with some bulk and plenty of elusiveness and sight.

I believe Westmont (size) and Johnstown (speed) showed us what happens when you just have one or the other.

It is still a sport the last time I checked, and the most important thing should be how good you are at it not just your speed or strength even though these two things definently help. Just a problem I've had with where the NFL and NCAA have been taking football too.
I couldn't agree more! Although there needs to be a "weeding out" process, guys like Rocky Blier would have never made it in today's game.

very good & logical conversation 'till this comment......watch some film..... Rocky was underrated as a blocker (may have been best in game) , decent receiver w/ good hands& was perfect North/South runner in Stilllers trap game! I remember one game, in particular where he ate up Oakland all pro Ted (the Stork) Hendricks.....get film of that game!
I have to say thank you to me ..." for not being stupid enough to go to Penn State."

I've seen too many players who have speed, quickness, & intelligence who can play above size. Let's think about the likes of Tom Smith (all state) who was a nose guard. Needless to say, you gotta have guys "in shape", but athleticism will win.

I believe I said that wrong. What I meant to say was, "Guys like Rocky Blier would have never been given a chance in today's game". Sorry for the confusion Vman! Rocky B is one of my favorite players/people of all time. Ive had the privledge of being at a conference where he gave one of his speeches on 'over comming the odds'. I think half the guys the ages between 21-30 were ready to tryout for the Stillers!
