from what i saw the match shoppey caught mcdannell in a 5 point move at the beginning, mcdannell was really gassed in the 3rd, but i belive it was cause he wasted all his energy in the 2nd trying to get caught back up, mcdannell did a good job, when you get caught and wrestle a kid that is hangin on to a 5 point lead, its hard to come by. from what i gathered mcdannell has been working very hard and i still believe he will do very well in regionals and has a shot at the state tournament.

P.S. the last 3 yrs mcadnnell and shippey wrestled mcdannell won 10 and shippey 2 its hard to wrestle a kid that many time and expect to win all the time
good luck to both these kids the next few weeks

This is how I saw it go down on saturday:

Starting with 215- This is the best thing that could happen for both wrestlers at this point in thier career, McDannel needs humbled if he wants to make a run at placing high at states and Shippey needs a boost of confidence, both should have happened during this match. McDannel's head was about as big as Windber's gymnasium this weekend, and it definitly showed, taking every match lightly, thinking he was going to breeze through, a sub-par wrestler put him on his back, this shouldn't have happened. I heard from many people that this match was a disappointment, wrong, Shippey did what he needed to do to win, and did it. Congrats Shippey.

125- Lascari, Cook, Chesney and Hosslerode. Wow, thank you for all the excitement this weekend. Toughest D5 weight in my recollection, and it shouldn't have dissappointed anyone. Chesney is looking as tough as ever, congrats on the OW, hopefully he goes far in the next 2 weeks. Hopefully these three can avoid eachother next week and all make it through to Hershey.

135- Potentially my favorite match of the night, Andy Sollenberger showed an insane amount of heart and drive, avenging a loss from earlier this season. Sollenberger looks tough and hopefully can pull through and head down to Hershey along with Mr. Ripple.

I do agree, if you are not in shape by now to go a 6 minute match and overtime, then you are going to be going home sooner than you would like too. Good luck to all D5 wrestlers next week.

Good post X-MAN.

I agree that might help both Shippey and McDannell. I have to wonder if McDannell has been sick though. He seemed in pretty good shape earlier in the year.

125 was great. I hate to say it but its a really tough weight in our region too. Prob. only one of these guys with a slight poss. of two are going to make it too hershey.

135 was a great match. What was up with the cautions though? I was sitting to the back of the wrestlers when they were in the refs position. Looked like Sollenberger was moving first? Didn't make a difference in the match in my opinion but 5 cautions is pretty bad.

dep i believe mcdannell is in shape, ive watched him go 6 minutes pretty good a few time this year, look at district duals i think mcdannell actually looked in better shape during that match, in this match mcdannell just didnt pase himself like he should of, if mcdannell doesnt take as many shots in the 2nd and picks n chooses his shot he comes back in the 3rd and wins that match, but i do agree the loss and win was good for both wrestrlers and like i said mcdannell still has a shot not onlu to place high but i believe he can win it if he wrestles smart, and uses his stenghts that he has wisely
good luck to shippey and mcdannell the next few weeks

125 - great match loved it most entertaining, great job chesney, i couldnt believe the amount of fans that were actually standing up and rootin for chesney it seemed like it was the whole d5 against bedford

You guys seemed to sum it up pretty good with what I saw.

I will add to your above good matches the 140 pound final. Shane really sucked it up scoring the reversal and then the takedown in overtime to beat Baker. It was real nice to see Josh win considering all he's been through since last July.

About the cautions in the 135 final. I saw Ripple really sink his weight down hard on Sollenberger actually moving Sollenberger. I have never seen so many cautions called in a match!

Good luck to all D5 wrestlers next week at regionals.

Yes, you are right...the cautions were a little rediculous, from my angle you could see it the best. The first time Ripple went to set on Sollenberger, he put his chest on Sollenberger's back and Sollenberger sort of "shot out of the gate" giving the caution to Sollenberger. The 2nd time in that little sequence, Sollenberger just buckled his elbows, making it apparent that Ripple was putting weight on him, thus getting the ref to call Ripple for it.

The cautions all go to no one having the *****to call anything right or consistent. They preach at the rules interpretations that the first contact by the top guy on the bottom(after the feet are set behind) is touching his navel. Then continue to the elbow while getting head position gently on his back.Few do it, but that's the way it was intended to be done.

You have to love the genuine emotion shown by several of the champions...no show boating, plain happiness...Andy , NB coaches in the corner, and the walk into the stands, Sheldon in the stands, Shippey, Chesney's classic smile, Coach Lazor's jubilation for Shane...Happy times/great memories!

I have seen more cautions this year then ever I think. Something needs to change. In effect getting into the referee's position is the same as getting set on a football field. Bottom line is it should be almost automatic to be able to get set without being cautioned. The rule's should maybe be looked at.

The new rule that they put in this year is the reason for all the cautions. These kids have been putting the hand on the arm then the belly from the top since they were in 2nd grade. Now they are seniors and they have to all of the sudden change that.

Ripple should have been called for 1 or 2 of the the cautions that were actually called on Sollenberger.
