imo Sines @ Meyersdale had less talent coming into his program and didn't have 2 neighboring schools to coop with, yet his team's results - dual with Berlin, overall regular season, district duals, and individual districts his squad topped Berlin every step of the way. He'd certainly have my vote before Cornell would.

"We had a strong junior high program coming through at that time. We had numbers in the junior high at that time to keep the program afloat or the school probably would have shut it down” - a quote from coach Cornell. The 2009 jr. high team finished 4th at the Mountain Conference, with Craig, Chris Miller & Eric Darr winning titles - the Berlin jr. high program was far from dismal. Cornell "transformed" that 4th place finish into a 7th place finish @ Windber 3 years later, and he should be rewarded as coach of the year?BleacherBump wrote: I'm pretty sure when berlin's varsity was deserted by lorson and could barely get 5 kids on their team, their jr. high was equally dismal.

It's a problem for many wrestling programs. There are lots of names on those lists that don't wrestle anymore. Wrestling is tough and as you go up there are less and less starting positions and kids now tend to quit and find other things to do if they aren't starters. Others get burnt out by being pushed too much.

In my opinion cornell deserves it more than creps. Berlin went to central catholic duals beat burrell (wpial aa champs) which was a 31 pt match, and lose to 2 top notch wpial aaa teams in kiski and central catholic. they take 3rd at richland duals, where they beat everybody up in their pool including richland, and also blairsvilleand in my opinion have a tougher regular season schedule than bedford. bedfor only wrestled 4 teams in the regular season that made it to d-5 duals and berlin wrestled 6. they also beat hyndman and everett, 2 teams that were ahead of them, by more that 60 pts. and also and berlin more than likely beats ct and meyersdale if they have 2 startes in the lineup at the start of the season. yes creps took bedford to the semis at hershey and takes top 6, but i was at the bedford berlin match and the bedford fans were in shock to see their team getting beat that bad through 106. it may have been a different match with berlins hwt also in the lineup. but lazor was deserving of the coach of the year for sure.

I'm not sure beating everett and hyndman are accomplishments and I'm not sure you can say Bedford has a weaker schedule than Berlin. I agree that Cornell could have been coach of the year but your argument for why is a little suspect. I know everyone hates creps but he's proven year in and year out that Bedford is on top. That's why everyone hates Bedford.fsufootball33 wrote:In my opinion cornell deserves it more than creps. Re: A disappointment for me at D5 tonight...
i know that not accomplishmants but they were ahead of berlin, but the tougher regular season, berlin had better compatition at the two team tournaments they went to. beating the always tough burrel by 30 pts is almost unheard of for a school in d-5. the teams that berlin face a central catholic was prolly tougher than what most teams faced from d-5 other than cr going to chambersburg that wrestled other aaa schools. the wpial aaa team tournament that kiski and central catholic lost to the team that made the state the finals. i think that is an accomplishment taking 3rd at central catholic for the smaller d-5. but yes bedford is a very tough team every year and i believe that berlin has the 2 startes throught the season they would have not been the 8th seed at districts.

Re: A disappointment for me at D5 tonight...
So FSU your arguements for Cornell are he ALMOST beat Bedford, He did beat HYNDMAN and EVERETT?? Could have beaten Meyersdale if.... By the way Bedford did beat them by like 30 or so. Interesting arguement for Coach Cornell.
Bedford beat every team they wrestled and they don't schedule alot of the D-5 schools so they can wrestle some bigger schools. Yes, Berlin did have Bedford on the ropes. But Bedford still won. Are you saying Cornell deserves the COY on the fact that he almost beat Bedford?? I'd agree he would be right in the mix if we only looked at 1 match.
This isn't meant to bash him. He has a nice team and they wrestle hard.
But being 7 or 8 best team in a 12 team district doesn't really scream outstanding to me.

Re: A disappointment for me at D5 tonight...
i think the problem is that they need to clarify when they give the awards out what the award is for. is coach of the year for the entire season or is coach of the year based on what you did at the district tournament. same with coach of the year for junior high. is it for the whole season or is it based of what your team did for the junior high post season as in the mountain conference tournament. so if you base it on the entire year you have to give it to the team that had the best record. so for varsity it has to be bedford-undefeated and beat ridge twice and went on to top 6 in state duals. and junior high its northern bedford- undefeated regular season, beat all area teams. if you go by the post season tournaments i believe the awards were given to the correct coachs.

Re: A disappointment for me at D5 tonight...
BTW- The team dual meets do not count towards your D-5 team standings from what I have been told. The 8th seed was earned through individually scheduled dual meet matches. And yes Berlin has def. beefed up their schedule as you could tell they had quite a few wrestlers that IMO were better then their record showed.
Chambersburg duals were won by a AA team (Bermudian Springs) that did not finish in the top 8 at states. The was not any quality PA AAA scholls at chambersburg duals. The best were AA PA teams like Bermudian and CR and there was a good VA team there.

Can you/anybody explain why Cornell should even be in the COY discussion instead of Sines?fsufootball33 wrote:In my opinion cornell deserves it more than creps. imo Bedford and North Star face the toughest competition in D5, and I don't think that its even close.
