District Six AA Rankings Week Four

Post by Crimson's Ghost »

1. Central 2-1 Lost to Clearfield 19-8 Next up: @ Penns Valley Previous: #1

Central remains in the top spot despite the loss to Clearfield. First off, Clearfield is a really good team, and secondly Central handled a good Tyrone team already. There is no reason to not have them in the top spot. The Dragons get a bit of a break after their tough opening slate of games with a trip to Penns Valley.

2. Tyrone 2-1 Defeated Huntingdon 42-27 Next up: Philipsburg-Osceola Previous: #4

After dipping to number four in the rankings, the Golden Eagles are back in the two spot. Even with the big loss to Central, I still think they are the next best team in the district. They just beat a good Huntingdon team by two scores, and should be able to move to 3-1 after a game with Philipsburg on Friday.

3. Ligonier Valley 3-0 Defeated United 52-0 Next up: @ Blairsville Previous: #3

Ligonier Valley continues to roll through the Heritage Conference. It still remains to be seen if they are truly a top tier team, as they still have a few weeks before their first big test.

4. Forest Hills 2-1 Defeated Penn Cambria 40-12 Next up: Central Cambria Previous: #7

Forest Hills bounced back after a loss to Somerset with a convincing win over Penn Cambria. The Rangers continue their tour with the Cambria schools as they host 0-3 Central Cambria this Friday. Forest Hills has a good chance of being 4-1 heading into the showdown with Bishop Guilfoyle on October 10th.

5. Huntingdon 2-1 Lost to Tyrone 45-27 Next up: @ Clearfield Previous: #2

The Bearcats drop in the rankings after a loss to Tyrone. Huntingdon is a solid football team that will be in the hunt all year long, but they will have another tough test with a trip to Clearfield coming up this weekend.

6. Mount Union 2-1 Defeated Southern Huntingdon 30-21 Next up: Moshannon Valley Previous: #5

Mt. Union has responded well after starting the year with a loss. The Trojans beat Southern Huntingdon in a big game last week, and they have another big time tilt on Friday with undefeated Moshannon Valley coming to town.

7. Juniata 2-1 Defeated Pine Grove 79-0 Next up: Line Mountain Previous: #9

Juniata is a tough team to figure. They are one of the highest scoring teams in the state, but they also gave up 85 points in their one loss. Last week the Indiana crushed Pine Grove 79-0, and they take on 0-3 Line Mountain this week. Look for Juniata to light up the scoreboard again.

8. Southern Huntingdon Lost to Mt. Union 30-21 Next up: Tussey Mountain Previous: # 6

Southern Huntingdon battled against a good Mt. Union team but came up short 30-21. The Rockets are off to a good start and can add to their playoff resume with an 0-3 Tussey Mountain team coming to Three Springs.

9. Richland 1-2 Lost to Westmont 41-40 Next up: Somerset Previous: #8

Richland endured an upset loss to Westmont on Saturday afternoon. The Rams had some reasonable expectations this season, but they are in danger of falling to 1-3 with a very good Somerset team coming to Herlinger Field.

10. Penns Valley 1-2 Defeated Bald Eagle 32-20 Next up: Central Previous: # 13

Penns Valley picked up their first win of the 2015 season after taking down Bald Eagle last week, but they get a real tough test with top ranked Central visiting on Friday.

11. Bald Eagle 1-2 Lost to Penns Valley 32-20 Next up: @ Chestnut Ridge Previous: #10

Bald Eagle has to make the LONG trip to New Paris to take on 1-2 Chestnut Ridge this week. Hard to say how Ridge is as a team, but Bald Eagle will be battling a long bus ride and the Lions.

12. Penn Cambria 0-3 Lost to Forest Hills 40-12 Next up: @ Cambria Heights Previous: #11

Penn Cambria has lost by multiple touchdowns in all three of their games this season. The Panthers have yet to find a rhythm on offense and will look to change that against Cambria Heights on the road.

13. Central Cambria 0-3 Lost to Bishop Guilfoyle 70-0 Next up: @ Forest Hills Previous: #12

Central Cambria has been outscored 168-15 through three games this season. The Red Devils don't have a lot of answers right now, and they have another difficult game on the road in Sidman against Forest Hills. Not many teams in the district have had a more challenging start to their season than Central Cambria.

14. Philipsburg-Osceola 0-3 Lost to Bellefonte 44-3 Next up: @ Tyrone Prebvious: #14

Another tough season for the Mounties. Philipsburg was competitive through the first two weeks, but Bellefonte really took it to them last week. They have a real tough game going into Tyrone on Friday.

That #4 may be a bit high at this stage of the season. An easy win over PC, a hopefully easy win over CC and CH, and a 4-1 record against weaker teams should be tempered for what it is. When they beat a tougher team, then they will be worthy of # 4. Maybe a month from now, but not at this point of the season. #7 is more realistic.

Central travels to Ligonier week 10, could be an interesting matchup.

It could be, but I'm not entirely sold on Ligonier just yet. Ligonier's Collin Smith is a very good player. Fair warning if you plan on traveling, Ligonier is a very small stadium. I was at a Central-Ligonier game a few years back for a playoff game, standing room only.

Ligonier has a history of fading as the games get tougher. I don't think they will be rolling into week 10 as an undefeated. I think they drop at least the Penns Manor and Huntingdon games prior to that.

I was at that playoff game as well and can remember parking in the muddy field behind the visitor stands.

You are correct, Ligonier tends to fade late in the year. I think they have some good players but a lot of them are juniors and sophomores, I think they might be a year away.

Ligonier doesn't have the size to compete with good AA teams. They have great team speed and skill position players but they're really small up front. They struggled with Northern Cambrias size and they'll struggle with Penns Manors size along with Huntingdon and Centrals. The biggest kid on their line looks to be maybe 210lbs.

I think Lig can be competitive this year but I don't think they will be able to match up with teams like a central or Tyrone. They do have some good skill players and run a spread offense to try to make up for lack of size. I look for them to make the playoffs this season with a possible 7-3 record. I do not think they can match up with central, Penns manor, or Huntington this regular season.
