Went to the Portage vs Homer Center game and huge effort from my Mustangs tonight. They were up one starting the 4th but they let the Wildcats go on a 9 - 0 run and unfortunately never recovered. Now I'm sure I'm gonna get flack(which is fine) because I had a dog in the fight in the game, but that was the most underwhelming 22 - 0 team I've watched. I saw first hand how they lost to St. Joes last year being the #1 seed as well.

Bishop Carroll 53
Moshannon Valley 52
Final in OT.

Great game, good playoff atmosphere. Mo Valley nearly pulled off a huge upset.

I got a chance to see HC play a few times this year. They handled their business tonight. The only player playing well for HC for the majority of the game was that #22 but he was a monster last year against St Joe's as well. A few more picked it up including Wolford which is why they won. Good teams win games when they don't play well and that's what Homer did tonight. Hats off to Portage though. I'm not as familiar with them but Swank seems like a good kid and they pushed Homer that's for sure. Real test for HC is next. If they play as well as they have throughout the season they should win on pure talent man to man but if they start slow against BG it could be rough. It's gonna come down to Homers big 3. #22 ( I believe it's Ireland?), Capitosti, and Wolford. If those 3 play well they won't lose.

It sure was ugly....BC did not deserve to win this game but survive and advance, that's all that matters. They should match up much better with Saltsburg's all guard lineup. On the other side, BG dismantled the one man show and Homer struggled to an injured ravaged Portage team. Should be an interested Monday night.

Ok, next Wednesday Altoona girls play Hollidaysburg and the winner plays State College in the quad A division. Who advances to face State? And does State win quad A to advance to states this year?

I agree with PortagePride, either HC is not that strong, or Portage was a lot better than people thought. Portage controlled the first 3 quarters of the game before their foul trouble really got to them. Once Gruss and St. Clair came out with 4 fouls, HC took the lead and never gave it back. HC really closed the game out well with free throws, I'm not sure if they missed in the closing minutes and it really ballooned the lead. Anyway, it was a great game and a great atmosphere. The next round should be a good one

As a neutral fan and not having seen either team play yet this year, I would observe that based on the players each team had on the floor that Portage played about as good a game as they could.  Portage's coach had a solid game plan and  did a nice job getting some minutes out of some players who really looked they were not yet ready for that level of play.  The foul trouble and lack of depth eventually caught up to them late in the game.

Homer Center on the other hand appeared to take Portage lightly.  They definitely had the better team and could very well win 10 out of 10 times against Portage.  They just did not seem like they were into the game until about mid way through the fourth quarter.  Portage was getting every lose ball and way too many offensive rebounds considering HC's size.    Homer Center  is well coached and disciplined  with some serious height for a class A team.  I can see where their length can create  problems for any of the local class A teams, but Homer Center needs to bring some more intensity to the next games if they plan on keeping  that zero in the loss column.

Let me get this right: BC and BG get to play doubleheaders, while HC does not.

Correct, Tyrone and Westmont got double headers tonight and McCort did not. Sometimes you won't be able to figure out why they schedule the things the way they do.

Anywho

Tyrone 38
Bishop McCort 32

Final.

Pretty bad game. I think McCort scored 5 points in the 1st quarter and Tyrone had 6 in the third.
