Re: Bishop McCort vs. Ligonier: AA Championship Thread
I mean if we are going back 15 years....
McCort won 4 straight district titles from 06-09, all those teams were loaded. Richland's 2012-13 teams were pretty talented.
Johnstown has multiple D1 players almost every year. The 2010-11 teams with Simon and Alkwan Williams were incredibly athletic, and this year's team has a lot of weapons as well. The 2014 Somerset team was pretty special.
Forest Hills has had so many good teams, I want to say around 2004 and 2009-10 had some good ones. The two Central teams you mentioned, but even the 2008 team with Lucas Runk was really good. The Tyrone team with Steve Franco that beat Aliquippa and went to Hershey was a great team. And of course these past three BG teams are outstanding.
Bellwood's had a couple good ones mixed in there as well, I really liked that 2011 Penns Manor team. I know it's been a while since they've been competent, but that 2005 Bishop Carroll team with Paul Forcellini was really freaking good as well.
Again, I think this Ligonier team is really good, and they'll probably win on Friday. But it seems a bit exaggerated that they are the most athletic AND most talented team from District Six in the past 15 years. I'm just not buying that. There have been a lot of good teams and good players.
IF Ligonier makes it to Hershey, I think we can revisit this. But for now, it seems premature to give them that distinction.

3 teams that come to mind in the past 5 years who were LOADED with speed are : 2011 Tyrone (State Finalists), 2012 Bellwood-Antis, & 2014 Mount Union. All those teams had legit BURNERS on the fieldKvothe0 wrote:Actually Johnstown has 3. With all this hype surrounding LV about "State Title" hopes, "Best Team Ever in D6", and "Untouchable" mentality, they better hope they win this weekend or the wolves will be knocking at the door...

There were also some pretty athletic Johnstown teams prior to this year.CCDevil2012 wrote:BG 2014, 2015, 2016?

One Ligonier supporter said that.. Stop acting like the whole community is behind what one person says.. That's ignorant

Re: Bishop McCort vs. Ligonier: AA Championship Thread
LV is a team that has truly benefitted from the 6 class system. Under the previous playoff format the discussion would be over last week or at the latest this week with Central. I hope they take advantage of it but I don't see them taking out Dunmore,Southern Columbia or West Catholic, and then Steel Valley. I would say BG is a finalist, Central has a shot with a tough Hickory matchup looming, State High doesn't get past PCC, and Johnstown wont get past Imhotep if they make it that far. Hollidaysburg at least got to rest prior to the end of the season coming.
Apparently the person watching D6 football for the past 15 years only attended LV games. I agree there have been many great teams during that time period. Unfortunately great D6 teams don't always fair well in the state playoff bracket as there are some real buzz saws out there to walk in to.

Exactly!! Once you run into some teams like Imhotep, Steel Valley, and PCC with some of the best players overall in the state at their respective positions things change a little bit.TAHS92Alum wrote:LV is a team that has truly benefitted from the 6 class system. They aren't a very big team.

Re: Bishop McCort vs. Ligonier: AA Championship Thread
Ligoniers backups could've swept most of the conference they benched the starters in the second half almost every game including the Appalachian bowl the only time they played in the second half was the past two playoff games and they even could've there too but they took knees at the end of the game I didn't know JV teams played on Friday nights until I went to there games.
