ill have to back the umps and refs here. if youve never tried officiating something, for example little league baseball for free like i do, then shut up. its not easy striking a kid out, or knowing that no matter what you call...half the crowd and players are gonna talk junk on you. cut the guys some slack...they arent getting paid thousands like professionals here.

Yeah, and I agree on that point of view. Some refs and umps are really good and I have a lot of respect for them, not only for being elder than me but also for the crap they have to put up with. And I know no one is perfect....I couldn't ever expect anyone to be even close to perfect. What I am talking about is a repetition of bad calls. If you are like me and have been playing a sport for awhile, you've come to know the refs...you know which ones are good and which ones aren't the greatest. The ones that aren't the greatest are like that because of repeated bad calls...and not just in one game...but every game they ref for you is like that.

Sorry if it seems like I am ragging on refs and umps out there, because I don't mean to.....I love you guys, haha, if it wasn't for you then we wouldn't be able to play our games...so thanks. :D There are only a few out there that I have negative opinions about.

Packerfan, why in God's name would you umpire little league games for no money, you take way to much crap doing that for nothing.

ive wondered that myself alot, i guess just for the sheer joy of the kids getting to play. nobody ever wants to be behind the plate, so if the games gonna get done, someones gotta do it.

Sorry--my bad on the previous post i made in this thread--I must have had a total mindblock. I thought he meant he intentionally made make-up calls and made it convenient. Again--sorry.

i have to agree . the refs suck this year. one ump called the pitch before it got past the plate. one ref called a foul ball when the ball was in play by about a foot.

The umpires/refs have to put up with a bunch of things during an event. Somebody has to do it. If your parents get so upset, they can go take the test. If they score well enough then they have the right to complain. Umpires/refs are normal people they are bound to make a mistake every now and then. Give them a break.

Men forget everything; women remember everything. That's why men need instant replays in sports. They've already forgotten what happened.

Officiating is a tough thankless job. These people receive a whole lot of unnecessary abuse. However they do also receive compensation. Their decisions affect the outcomes of sporting events. And they do react to comments from the crowd.
