Lance Blasted
Re: Lance Blasted
I've got to agree with oneandonly here...
Barry Bonds has the best swing in baseball, his reflexes are top notch which gives him the ability to wait longer on the pitch than most batters. Don't believe me?...watch baseball tonight and listen to Harold Reynolds or Chris Berman. Most of what i just said is repeating what one of them has said in the past.
Bottom line...Until they test positive, they're legit in my book and they deserve all the glory and respect they're getting. And until it's proven...with EVIDENCE...that Barry Bonds takes ILLEGAL substances...he's one of, if not the, greatest hitters of all time.
and Lance Armstrong is the greatest athlete of all time!

Re: Lance Blasted
No question Barry Bonds is a great hitter. He has an amazing swing and has always been a great ball player. There is still no doubt in my mind that his home run totals are due to steroids. Steroids make you stronger. If you are stronger the ball will go further when you hit it. Those home runs that just make it over the fence by 10 or 20 ft. would be fly ball outs hit to the warning track without the steroids.
Steroids are part of all professional sports. There are still many undectable steroids out there. Athletes have been passing drug tests for years while under the influence of performance enhancing substances. Lack of evidence doesn't mean they are clean.

As I type this, I am wearing my yellow "Live Strong" Lance Armstrnong Foundation bracelet. http://www.laf.org I am a very pro Lance and my bias will no doubt show in this response. I do not ride competively but I do ride to train for triathons. Not to be bragging but on Sunday, I did a 75 mile ride.
Greg Lemond, I think is jealous of Lance's accomplishments. I think he wants to be known as the USA's greatest bicyclist because of his Tour de France victory. Lance has stolen his thunder.
I do not think the French spectators where spitting on Lance because of anti-American feelings. In 1975, Eddie Merckx, from Belgium, was well on his way to his sixth in a row tour title. A spectator punched Merckx in the face causing him to crash. Merckx injured his kideys and lost any chance for number six. The French are very provisional about this race. Watch the crowds during a stage if a Frenchman has a chance to win. If the Frenchman wins they go nuts, if he loses he can hear a pin drop.
Steriods could help a cyclist recover (heal) quicker during hard training. EPO and the other agents for blood boosting are used to raise the red blood cell count to utilize oxygen better. How about the racer who was busted during the tour for methadone (used for herion rehab and as herion substiute) as a painkiller?
Lance almost died from cancer. His chemotherapy and his other cancer treatment devasted his body. I can not quote him directly, but his reply to the doping allegatons always start with why after almost dieing from cancer would he want to put chemicals in his body that could kill him. Well cycling may be important to him, his life is more important. He may be the most drug tested athlete in the world. After every tour stage, the stage winner and the overall tour leader had to submit to drug testing. Other riders are selected randomly to be tested. Through out the year, he is also subjected to random testing by the US antidoping agency, the US Cycling Foundation, and other organizations. His samples are also stored for later testing as the testing gets more sophisticated.
The world of endurance has and will always have cheaters. I looked at http://www.velonews.com site and four stories on the home page dealt with riders being banned from cycling because of failing drug tests. Mostly EPO.
I think Lance is clean!
Gosh sorry for the book. Any grammatical and spelling errors are cause I am just a hick from the sticks.

Re: Lance Blasted
They have found documentation since the collapse of the Berlin wall that the East German athletes used steroids to win Olympic medals. Yet, they all tested negative during the Olympic Games. The cheaters were ahead of the drug testers then and they still are today.
I'll say it again.... lack of evidence does not mean you are clean. In America it means you won't be convicted of a crime, but it doesn't necessarily make you innocent. There is more than one guilty criminal roaming the streets of this country who was let off the hook because of lack of evidence.
