The Irish get screwed
according to espn's pat forde, urban "legends" meyer will become the next head coach down at florida. he chose them over notre dame. i wonder who the irish will target next. maybe butch davis, maybe bobby petrino, maybe john gruden. they have to regret releasing willingham so early if this story is true.

Re: The Irish get screwed
I found the same thing at Fox Sports, but Florida's athletic department says that nothing is official yet. The Irish should have hung onto Tyrone Willingham and at least given him another year to get his first recruiting class through, and then see what he has. He took them to a higher up bowl his first year coaching, then he lost it a little bit. Notre Dame has about the toughest schedule in college football, and he should be given one more chance. But he was fired, and much of it may have been so that the Irish could pursue Urban Meyer. If that was the case, and Meyer goes to Florida, then the Irish would be getting precisely what they deserve.

No Ty was a bum he had 3 years to turn it around he didnt so he is gone. They will get a great head coach mooch, gruden, and Urban turned them done. Now it will be Tedford Petrino or Holtz i believe. I want Holtz back to turn the clock back to 1988!

Re: The Irish get screwed
just out of curiosity. can someone tell me ND's record for the last 3 years. where willingham coached. I believe it was Very respectable. 9-3, 8-3's accross the board, if im not mistaken. How can you say that after a season like that, they are playing bad? That hes a bum? I think its saying that if you play at ND. youd better be whatever and 0 or your out the door. Or get into a big bowl game, which how are they supposed to do that, when they dont play in a conference. Its saying they have to be in the top 6 to get a bid. somewhere, or they could get into the big east, and get bowl games by finishing 8-3..
I glad ND got jipped. I cant stand 'em. I read that they want to go recruit the type of players that Miami and them get. The ones that big with them the bad rep. Which will tarnish ND's golden dome. They should stick to recruiting the blue collar type kids. The ones who will work hard, and not go get involved with drugs and legal problems that will only make ND look bad.

Notre Dame was 10-3 in 2002, 6-6 in 2003 and 6-5 this year. Willingham won his first 8 games, but has been just over .500 since then. Still, I said on a different thread, a coach should be given 5 years in college. The kids he recruited (assuming most are redshirted as freshman) are only soph. now. He should be given a chance to see what these kids can do when they are juniors or seniors. If they are not living up to ND standards then, go ahead and find a new guy. ND also needs to lighten up their schedule a little bit.

As much as I dislike ND, a weak team is not good for COllege Football. They are one of those programs that everybody has an opinion about. They need to step it up and do something over the next 10 years.

Re: The Irish get screwed
Willingham's first three seasons came out to a total of 21-15. That wasn't great, since the past two seasons had only 5 and 6 wins I believe. However, Notre Dame's football players were getting the best grades that they've ever gotten, and had the highest graduation rate that they'd ever had for football players as well. Besides, they play a tough schedule. They have a rivalry game with USC every year, besides playing Michigan, Tennessee, and Purdue. They also played Pittsburgh and Boston College, two teams that are on top of the Big East. And they do this without being able to recruit on sheer athletic ability. There is a much higher academic standard that players must meet before they can get into Notre Dame. So with all that, I think he should have gotten a year or two more to make his case, especially with the good things that were happening off the field. And Notre Dame is probably going to need to join a conference to make things easier on themselves schedule wise, perhaps the Big East or the Big Ten would be a good fit.
