All that money.......it begs the question: Why don't they have their OWN state of the art football facility? It's like Notre Dame having to play their games at South Bend Adams High School.

PaleRider,
that money goes to the school because the do not get any tax money because they don't have a school district.
Lets find a McCort school teacher's opinion on this matter of kids not paying to go there because of a sport. The faculty would be the one's suffering. Many Teachers at McCort make less then 20 grand a year, and if these kids are paying for free...I would think that is money coming out of their pocket.
Anyone know any McCort teachers?

You mean they don't have a separate athletic and academic fund? That all the money goes into ONE BIG POT!!! That teachers are paid from money taken in at girl's volleyball games? Don't believe that. Sorry!! Now, what's the story on non-catholic tuitions? By the way, they don't get any tax dollars because, THEY CHOSE THIS when they declared themselves a private school. They do get FREE transportation though. Now about them tuitions?

Re: How does your 2005 team look
I'm staying out of the recruiting issue. My question is, if there are teachers making less than 20000 at McCort, how bright are they? I mean common.

Re: How does your 2005 team look
So you're saying that over the years, guys like Rashaun Puryear, Rashawn Dickey, the Hawkins' Boys ALL paid over $20,000 plus extras(with NO financial assistance) to attend McCort for 4 years? Really? You better check in on this. You might be surprised.... Now if kids come to McCort solely to play sports, what can you do???? Well for starters, if McCort knows that that is why they are coming, DENY them admission. If Derrick Rose is truely coming to McCort, JUST SAY NO!!!! It's not that hard to do. After all, aren't parochial schools the epitomy of honesty and integrity? McCort knows the rules. Don't encourage them... Please recheck that non-Catholic tuition thing again.
Re: How does your 2005 team look
Non-catholics do not fill out the financial aid form which is sent to Minnesota. Since the Catholic Diocese is responsible for determining who gets a discount and how much, why would catholics give Non-catholics a discount, especially when they charge non-catholics more tuition to begin with than catholics to attend the school? So you are telling all of us, that if a non-catholic wants to send a child to McCort, and the parents of that child do not make alot of money, that McCort will not only admit them to the school, but give them a discount too?

ok user... you said it...anyone can attend McCort.
Now, why should they be allowed to compete with public schools? Anyone can't attend publics schools. So please tell me how Bishop McCort and every other school should be allowed to compete in the PIAA.
Here is what you are saying is fair...lets say the steelers can only bring in players from Pittsburgh. Dallas can bring in players from all over the U.S.
You want Pittsburgh to compete with Dallas.
Seriously....99 million straight winning seasons...I hope so... you have an advantage in the LHAC over every team you play...until recently Carrol.

And to Moldo...here was my point from before.
The tuition these kids pay to go to McCort pay the teachers. If kids are not having to pay because of athletics, then that is money out of the teacher's salary. Because tuition is what funds the school.
And to Eagle Alum...you'd be suprised how hard it is to get a steady job in education. A $20,000/year steady salary is a lot better then playing the sub game all year making $60 a day. Check into teacher retention at McCort...it is very low.
Here's another point for all the Academic disagreements between public and private schools. Most private school teachers are not state certified. At a public school, you must be certified...how can you tell me the education is better at a private school when 1) you teachers get paid less 2) you're teachers aren't certified
My cousin is in the administartion at McCort...these things are true...
It is also funny how athletic things are never discussed at the dinner table.

Re: How does your 2005 team look
Just to update BD/FH, went back and did a little research.
1983 week 10 22-7 BD
1985 week 8 20-6 BD (both teams were undefeated)
1986 week 8 17-0 BD
1987 week 8 12-12
1988-89, not sure if they even played each other. If they did they were BD wins, cause they only lost one game those 2 years to Bellwood.
Couldn't find anything on 1984, but I think FH won 12-6 or 13-6. BD was 7-0 and lost the last two games to Westy and FH.
Now, I think FH was just starting to build it's program during the 80's and BD already had a good program. But even through the 90's and into the present, it has been a pretty even series, except in the playoffs.
As for this year, I look for another outstanding game. Both teams should be pretty good, and maybe BD can break out of the playoff slump they have been in the last few years.

Re: How does your 2005 team look
Opinionguy,
Because of the discussion comes up every year about the recruiting of students I have done a lot of research on this subject. I have gone directly to the source the administration at the Diocesan level for all of my data and I will stand behind it 100%.
I must disagree with your information. Your statement that the teachers are not certified is false. The local catholic schools have almost all of their teachers certified to teach anywhere is PA. The reason they cannot say that all of their teachers are certified is that there is no certification for religion.
There is also a lot of false information and perception of how things work there especially in the financial aid area and I can tell you that is mostly wrong
