County Cup=more flawed than the BCS...

It's pretty bad when a kid from Ridge says that he's questioning the validity of the system now after the outcome...

Thanks Bam-Bam.

Talk about Ridge people whining and its our fault that the BEDFORD gazette does this whole County Cup thing. It does look pretty nice sitting in our office for the second consecutive year! lol

What will happen is all you whiners from Bedford will do so much complaining to the BEDFORD gazette about how unfair it is to Bedford that they'll quit doing it.

I'll whine all I want. Bedford dominated Ridge and the other county schools in most of the sports where the schools squared off against each other. They had a superior football team that finished undefeated in a tougher conference and had a top seed (higher than Chestnut Ridge) in the D 5/6 playoffs. They had a basketball team that, as well as winning the district title, beat Chestnut Ridge alone 4 TIMES. The girls basketball team even when undefeated in county play. I could go on, but I think I've stated my case enough.

What did you have to do to win? Beat Fannet Metal and Fishertown School for the Blind more than the other schools?

The Bedford County League was pretty much disbanded when Bedford decided to join the LHAC. Up until that point the county could determine champs for each sport because they played each other.

The county cup was created as a way to keep county competition alive, give the teams something to play for. Since Bedford does not play all the county schools in all sports anymore you cannot determine a winner based on head to head competition. So you have to look at conference championships, playoff wins, etc. If Bedford chooses to play in what they consider a tougher conference then so be it, but don't come on here and complain because you didn't win the 'Cup'.

Be happy with your LHAC crowns and congratulate Ridge. Across the board, both schools had good athletic programs this year.

Excellent points Analyst. I don't agree with whining and making excuses at any level from anybody. How can you argue with the math? Ridge won it and Bedford didn't. End of discussion.

It simply doesn't make sense that a school that can win LHAC crowns and wins more district titles than the other county schools yet cannot win the County Cup. Also, I'm not making excuses. I'm stating facts.

On a less bitter note, both schools did enjoy successful years and we, as a county, should be proud of their accomplishments. Our small area represented itself quite well in District 5/6 and even state competitions. It seemed that in about every sport, right down to softball and baseball, Bedford County teams have been in a chase for the title and that is something to be proud of. I'm done complaining... nice year Chestnut Ridge. Nice year Bedford. Congrats to all other county schools, as well. You've given us, the fans, something to cheer for and be proud of and for doing that, I thank you.

This is one of the reason's the county cup was formed. To keep people interested in the county schools and keep rivalries within the county alive since the aren't all able to play against each other anymore. You may not like the results in the end but it was formulated with ease at mind with hard facts, not opinions. congratulations again to Ridge and also to Bedford who was a close second. It's also a reminder that the numbers are averages. The total number of points divided by the total number of sports. Bedford's boys tennis team did well, but Ridge doesn't have one. The system was formulated to take all these things into account.
