Re: Penn State Football
Dear AE,
Sorry to hear that Benbow kid may be at State Penn...I'm gonna take advantage of all his down time and send him 10 handwritten letters a day, so when he gets out, he'll wanna come to PSU and play linebacker. Isn't that every kids dream in central PA? To play LB at Penn State?
Yes, I remember Justin Wheeler...he was one heckuva LB for us. We were so deep when he was here, I think he only saw the field for 3 plays in 4 years. That doesn't mean he wasn't good. He'd have been a 4 year starter and a letterman at Pitt. Don't kid yourself. We here at PSU invented the idea of a linebacker. Just ask Coach Paterno. I actually got Justin to attend PSU by hand delivering my handwritten letters to his home in Lilly. Shhhh, don't tell everyone my recruiting secrets.
You're right, NONE of those Pitt teams could ever beat PSU. Back in the late 90s, We pounded that 2W-9L Pitt team when we were ranked #1 in the nation. I think the score was 20-17. Lavar had a great game that day. Boy, I'll never forget the viscious hit he put on that Pitt punter. That's what we teach our linebackers, to really smack teh punter hard and it sets the tone for the game. That's not dirty, it's just good sound smashmouth linebacking football!
You're also right...WE ALWAYS OUTRECRUIT PITT!!!! Ya know, Ancient Enemy, you have me thinking...Just like I am petitioning the NCAA to change all those 34 losses over the past 5 years to victories because we fill our stadium, I'm also gonna throw into my proposal that we should automatically get wins just because we have more blue chip recruits than everyone else!!!!!!!! We do such a great job developing all that talent, too. Once we get all those 5 stars, they just blossom here. TWENTY SIX WINS in 5 seasons. That's incredible with all that talent we have, isn't it? We should just get victories based on talent alone, just liek attendance!
After all, we DESERVE to win just because we fill the stadium seats and get all those blue chip recruits. That should just automatically transfer to wins, right!!! What's the matter with the NCAA anyway??? They are always picking on the good guys. They pick on us just because we're good. The officials conspire against us and make our coach angry, so he chases down officials. Heck, the NCAA even took a nice guy like Galen Hall and put him on probation. All he was trying to do is help kids families out by slipping them a few (hundered) dollars each...What burns me up is that Galen was really trying to help that young man at Florida out by paying child support for his kid for a few months. He was just being kind. Priorities, I say!!!
You're right...People wanna see a winner. I heard that our season ticket list is just booming. But buying the season tickets and actually attending the games are two different things. I heard that this gentleman from Loysburg, Mr. Graybleacher purchased 10,000 seats last season. He plans to purchase another 5,000 this year. What a great supporter of PSU football he is! I'll be writing Mr. Graybleacher a handwritten letter thanking his for his support of PSU football and asking him if he wants a scholarship for his son. he played tuba in the band as has potential as a OLB. EVERYBODY loves a winner, right?
Gotta go, lots of handwritten letter to pen!

Re: Penn State Football
I wasn't saying anything negative about Wheeler, for the record. I just brought him up because he was from PC. I was just a kid when he was at PSU, but I remember asking my dad all the time when he was gonna get put in the game. I wanted Izzi to play all the time too.

Re: Penn State Football
I'm not saying that is the way to recruit and spend their time but you missed two important parts of the article. One is the fact that King came to PSU. Oh well how he got there. And the letters came over the entire recruiting process. Second is the fact that it states many other colleges now do the same thing, it just doesnt list them.

Re: Penn State Football
Many other college use the handwritten letter technique? Could it be possible that Bradley DID NOT INVENT it? Could it have been copied from someone else?

I wonder if King's Stepdad/Coach who went to PSU had more of an influence on him to go there than Mr. Bradley's well thought out letters. What say you Mr. Bradley?

Re: Penn State Football
If Bradley is recruiting a kid from Florida, does he write to him in English AND Spanish? You know, just in case.....

Speaking of Spanish Florida, San Marcos Castle at St. Augustine is definitely haunted by a general who chained his unfaithful wife and lover to a wall and cemented them inside.
