Pitt vs. Penn State....keep it HERE!
Re: Pitt vs. Penn State....keep it HERE!
Penn State players leave men's basketball too. But they just bail out of a bad program and head for greener pastures. You remember: One of the Crispin boys, Hojo, Marlin Smith among a few. Of course, DISENCHANTED kids do not count towards the APR. Even the great YAWN Jagla disappeared a few years ago with eligibility remaining. Pitt's "token" problem is correctable. Penn State's isn't. Who will leave next???
Sounds like a jibberish response to me. Care to explain how three students can send an entire program into the APR crapper, when the vast majority of teams, including programs that send far more players to the NBA then Pitt, can measure up to NCAA standards?
Pitt's own Imperial AD explained the very very poor APR score by suggesting it was the exodus (one player) to the NBA and a few (two students) incompleted classes. That sounds like a shady explanation, when it probably was a larger problem of just plain poor students on the rest of the squad.
I mean, can you imagine if Penn State athletics, in any form, was singled out for poor academics?? Not only would the Post Gazette add an extra section, but Pantherlair.com would probably explode.
Pitt better hope that its "token problem is correctable" for they only have two years before the statistical loophole is closed and they have to give up scholarships! How will they be able to deal with WVU then?????????????????

First of all, WVU is also in the same boat as far as the APR is concerned. Thought you would have known that. Other teams indeed send players to the NBA. But do theses kids leave early like Taft did? AND, what? There are 14 players on a basketball team. THREE kids NOT FINISHING out of 14 IS SIGNIFICANT enough to throw the APR out of whack. This isn't 3 out of 110 football players you know. It's 3 out of 14, just enough to put everything askew. So AD Long is right. It is correctable. Next question????
Only have ONE recruit verballed for next year. Some kid from Albany. WOW!!!
They are only losing one player and their roster is full plus they get back Danny Morrsey from injury they will be fine with just that one.

Of the three Pitt kids that did not finish classes, Taft left early for the NBA. Troutman had already graduated and it was graduate courses that he did not finish. The same for the third player, whom also was taking graduate courses.

So in a year or two PSU will build their team around this kid from Albany?

When you have 1080 hours of community service for cocaine possession you wonder when you would have the time to strangle your kid and beat him with an electrical cord.

You guys certainly have a fixation for Pitt grads. First Tony Dorsett. NOW Hamilton. So what's the significance after these people are long gone from the program. Do I think any less of USC because of O.J.? Do I think Bedford sucks because Bill Benbow got in trouble after he graduated?? You guys are GRASPING. Keep trying.
