The book says play for the tie, and if you lose in OT it's bad luck.
But play for the victory in regulation and lose? You're a bad coach

Re: Plaxico -- Just Go
Plax seems selfish, and thats not the image that goes along w/ the steelers. Id be suprised if they find someone to take his place right away but el and mays are no scrubs and maybe they will have a 2nd wr by commitee until someone steps up

Re: Plaxico -- Just Go
What's so wrong with being selfish? TO is selfish, Moss is selfish.. You have to be selfish to be great. You have to want the ball on every play to be great.
I was in no way saying there needs to be a total revamped offense put in, but the pass opens up the run, and as someone already brought up on this post, who were the MVPs of the 4 Steeler Superbowls? Which of the four can you honestly say Franco won for them?
How did the game blow open last Sunday? When the Pats ran play action and threw it DEEP.
NE was putting 10 men in the box, and shots down field will keep anyone honest. If you have Plaxico Burress lined up wide, and your running game is stagnant because the line is stacked, why not throw the ball down field? If he's covered, throw it out of bounds.. Its all about keeping defenses HONEST.
Did the Steelers win games when Burress was gone? Yes. The thing is, they werent playing the Patriots here. They beat the Jets in the regular season and only threw something like 9 passes.
The problem with Chad Owens is, yes he's fast, but he's only like 5'8. He has the potential to be a really good player.. Like a Randel El type, and that's fine. But even CO cant fit the void that's going to be left if Burress is gone.
But the point I've been trying to make is you need a deep threat, and when you already HAVE ONE on your team with the speed/build of Burress, why not use him properly? Whichever team he goes to will, and will reap the benifits.

Re: Plaxico -- Just Go
well said DE unfortunatley in a free agent nfl system we are not going to be able to keep plax, i just hope he does'nt destroy us with the ravens.nonetheless this years rookie draft is strong on recievers. the stelers will get a good young reciever to fill the hole quickly.

Re: Plaxico -- Just Go
Its gonna be a real shame if he does go to Baltimore, especially when Boller really started coming around at the end of last season.. And as TAE already said, Neuhisel is going to be there coaching him next year, which will only further thier progress more..
For as much as we have returning next year, Baltimore is a team with a young and improving qb, Jamaal Lews, Todd Heap, and perhaps PLAXICO on one side of the ball, with Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, and Terrell Suggs on the defensive side..
Now that scares me..

Re: Plaxico -- Just Go
Debiceps,
Maybe you want to chose your words better. To say you have to be selfish to be a greater player is ridiculous. I don't believe I would qualify, Art Monk, or Lynn Swann as selfish (only named receivers for comparison, but I could name many more great players to the list) .
If you wanted to argue you have to be confident to be a great player, I may agree, but to a say all great players are selfish is way off base.
Keep in mind wanting the ball on every play doesn't make you great. Production on plays make you great.

Re: Plaxico -- Just Go
The meaning I had behind selfish was wanting to be the guy to make the play.. Wanting the ball..
And yes production makes you great.. if you're a running back who gets the ball 40 times a game and rushes for 20 yards of course you're far from great, but its the attitude i'm talking about.. When you're on offense, you gotta want the ball to come your way, you gotta want them to run the ball at your hole on the line.. On defense, you gotta want them to throw the ball at the guy you're covering, want to make the tackle every play.
Of course production makes great players, but it was more the attitude I was talking about..

Re: Plaxico -- Just Go
Quick example from my last post.. Jerry Rice was upset in Oakland because he wasnt getting many chances, and after the game when he had his consecutive games with a reception record snapped, he was out..
Now I know Jerry Rice is far from the receiver he once was, but he still has "it" inside him

Re: Plaxico -- Just Go
plax will probably leave the steelers and go to the team that doesn't get moss like baltimore or washington.
