Looks like the Hanrahan deal with Boston is close.
Rumor has it Iglesuis not in the mix.
Jerry Sands seems to be a name that keeps coming up 25 yr old minor league OF
If a minor league out fielder is the center piece of this trade then the Red Socks will be smiling from ear to ear.

File Jerry Sands under the "questionable corner outfielder" category that already includes Jose Tabata, Alex Presley, and Travis Snider.

In my eyes, this is a typical Pirate move. Put one of your "so called" big names on the market, go fishing for SS Dee Gordon or SS Inglesias, get turned down, and settle for 4 players and hope 1 works out. I've seen this for 20 years +. People that put signifigant money into this team are idiots. Until baseball is constructed with a salary cap, the Pirates will never compete. But, a salary cap will not happen in our lifetime. Baseball is capable of pulling this off because the season is in the summer and 162 games. Over that period, even pathetic teams will find enough families to head out to the ball park, spend money on food, and watch fireworks. The fireworks just aren't on the field.

yeah it looks like a 4 for 2 deal they get Hammer and a player not named yet, and we get Pimentel,Sands , and Melancon and a player not named yet. Melancon is a high k low bb mlb guy already, with a lousy era, that's in part to the fact he pitches to contact at fenway...he has good stuff....I'll wait and see on this one...not what I wanted, but could help out pen.

This is looking like a deal to position for another deal. On closer examination, the Bucs will now have a logjam in corner outfielders and 1b...none that look great...they will now look to trade Garrett Jones in a package for a ss/2b or a power bat...jmo

I don't think I can get behind this deal. We have enough corner outfield/first basemen. I thought Brock Holt did okay for the Bucs when he was up in September. Now if we somehow turn this into something better, I'm fine with it.

Melancon for Hanrahan is basically a wash in my opinion. They have similar ability but Melancon is under contract longer and he's cheaper. Holt can hit for AVG and that's it. He isn't a great defender, has ok wheels, and won't have many extra base
hits. Sands at least has some potential, hopefully he hits leftys well and does decent in a platoon role.

Unless Hammer is lights out in Boston and Melancon gets shelled, I think it's a win for the Bucs.
