Big Ten Recruiting 2009

Post by The Ancient Enemy »

Here's an update on the Big Ten teams and their commits so far in 2009. Sounds a little early, but there are quite a few kids committed already, and this crap starts earlier each year.

MARCH 5TH:
==============

ILLINOIS

Lendell Buckner: 4-star DT
Leon Butler: 4-star OT
Melvin Fellows: 4-star DE

INDIANA

none

IOWA

none

MICHIGAN

William Campbell: 5-star DT

MICHIGAN STATE

Larry Caper: 4-star RB
Andrew Maxwell: 1-star QB
Edwin Baker: 5-star RB
Donald Spencer: 1-star WR
Chris Norman: 4-star LB

MINNESOTA

Moses Alipate: 3-star QB
Josh Campion: 1-star OT

NORTHWESTERN

none

OHIO STATE

Jamie Wood: 3-star S
Chris Fields: 4-star WR
CJ Barnett: 4-star CB
Jack Mewhort: 3-star OT
Adam Homan: 1-star FB
Johnny Simon: 5-star DT
Storm Klein: 4-star MLB
Jordan Whiting: 4-star MLB

PENN STATE

none

PURDUE

none

WISCONSIN

Ryan Groy: 1-star OT
Jordan Kohout: 1-star DT
Shelby Harris: 1-star DE

Keep in mind that those 1-star ratings are not accurate. Scout.com has ranked their 5-stars, 4-stars, and a handful of 3-stars to this date, so some of those 1-star players are probably 3-stars. It's not exactly been Ohio State's policy to gather up 1-star talent.

As you can see, MSU is wasting no time in getting their class together. Those 2 RB's are the top 2 backs in Michigan. Minnesota is already compiling their class as well, building off immense success in the 08 class. Illinois as well.

We'll see how PSU's class in 09 unfolds, but something has already irritated the hell out of me. This Mark Brazinski kid was up there at camp already this past weekend. Hes a center from New Jersey, and has already declared that he has a ton of interest in Penn State. Shipley will be graduating after this season. Brazinski is already starting to amass scholarship offers from decent programs. Take a guess whether or not Penn State gave this kid an offer.

Looks like Penn State's rival, Michigan State, is quick out of the gate.

You haven't heard about that BIG rivalry with MSU. It's a real cutthroat affair at the end of each year.

Yes, it is quite stimulating. However, the fact remains that every team in the Big Ten is trying to actually win the Big Ten. All you can ask for as a fan is for progress to be made. If Penn State doesn't get that corpse off the sideline pretty soon, they'll be battling Michigan State and Iowa for 5th place every year. You can't sit around and hope things will change, you have got to make the effort. Penn State stays stagnant and happy at 9-3.
