See here is an example of a good team that most people didnt hear about this year. Even though they lost they had a hell of a season.

I was at the Purchase Line / Portage game last night and came a way with one thought.

PURCHASE LINE IS THE ABSOLUTE WORST 9-0 TEAM I HAVE EVER SEEN.

1. They ran fullback dive for 70% of their offensive plays
2. They absolutely could not pass.. Portage was running a 6-3 with man coverage on the outside and they could not/ would not throw. They completed two passes. One was a tight end arrow for 2 yards and the other was a hitch on 3 and 8 that was fumbled. Every other pass was completely uncatchable.
3. Sitting in their side of the stands I over heard conversations about how bad Bishop McCort was and they were already talking about who they would play once they won District 6.
4. Their tackling was on base with a pee wee team. No one wrapped their arms
5. Defensive lineman stood straight up at the snap and defensive ends came so far up field that it created a natural running lane for the Portage offense.

The Heritage conference should be absolutely humiliated by this season of football. The Blairsville team that lost to BC several years ago was a very impressive team. But for 2008, Purchase Line was terrible and being undefeated in this conference just goes to show how bad it is. Cambria Heights should be making some calls to see about getting in.

I can't imagine that I was the only one at the game that was amazed by how bad PL was.

I am a fan of the Heritage but I agree with your comments. PL was nothing more than an average Class A team. They could have lost 3 or 4 games in a Conference that has been down for three years in my opinion. Blairsville, United, PL, Homer Center, and Laurel Valley usually put out some strong teams but not for the last three years. The sad thing is that, because of how things played out, the Heritage teams that made the playoffs fell into the easier side of the bracket except for Laurel Valley. I don't know if things look any better for the next few years. Coaching has been pretty much stable over the years but numbers seem to be down. Not sure what the answer is. I would like to see the Conference get back to where it was when United was a force, contending for the title year after year.
