Re: 2 Teams??
The two team idea is something that needs to be decided by other people in power, not the league. If the oldtimers were smart they would have two teams, because that will boost more interest and more money for the tournament. Some people will boo hoo about how Delweld didn't get all the coverage and blah blah blah, but realize that Martella's was one of the best 6 teams in the tournament. We want the best competition their don't we, everyone cries when Baltimore, New Orleans, Washington, or Detroit doesn't come because they say the tournament is watered down. If we keep on letting terrible teams from Ohio get automatic bids and don't recognize that another team from Johnstown would be better competition for the tournament, then we are shooting ourselves in the foot. Sponsor of the teams might also want two Johnstown teams to enter the tournament just because their business's name will get good publicity for an entire week.

Re: 2 Teams??
Wrong again Hector. Go ask Martellas if they would have been happy if Delweld finished 2nd and were invited to the play in the tournament after not earning the right. Why split the town in half? Your argument of making more money doesnt hold water. Did you go to the games in the afternoon? Attendance of 300 people isnt going to put the Oldtimers over the top. The Oldtimers make money when the Johnstown entry is there more than 2 nights. Once they get to night 4 it's all gravy for them. There is no need to have two entries. If the powers that be think this is in the best interest of the tournament to make money then they should push the AAABA league to play out the season get rid of the playoffs, pick an all-star team of 20 players and the coaching staff who finished in 1st place takes the team. But then Im sure that idea wouldnt be good enough either because Little Johnny wouldnt make the team, daddy would go cry to anyone who would listen then say its all politcal. Figure it out.
One more thing. In your opinion Martella's may have been one of the 6 best teams in the tournament, BUT when you look in the record books it will show Delweld earned the right to represent the city.

Re: 2 Teams??
Martellas wouldn't have cared but that is the difference between a franchise with class...and well...Delweld. The second Johnstown team did draw better for the city of Johnstown because instead of Livonia playing Elk County at the Point with only 100 people, those 200 more people helped out. Plus you had the intrigue of both Johnstown teams playing after winning their brackets...but both teams choked (Martellas due to lack of pitching depth and Delweld for mismanagement of their bullpen). Yes, Delweld did earn the cities birth in the tournament and Martellas got in, but they still represented Johnstown well (as did Delweld). I am just happy neither team after losing got to the championship game because they would have been massacared like that one year Washington had their C-TEAM on the field and beat Delweld 100-0. I think some of the balls those kids hit in that game haven't landed yet.

Re: 2 Teams??
your right hector how many hits did Martella's have against Delweld in the tournament this year?? OH YEAH 0... that is going to make teams think hey let's get back in the tournament Johnstown has two teams this year! Maybe they will join to get in the record books to for pitching no hitters against them hahahahaha! Your argument is going nowhere! They got no hit in front of thousands of fans who were there to see which team deserved to be there and the team that was GIVEN the chance because of politics! Rumor has it the team said they did not think they were making it early in the week and Baltimore should have been asked, but that message was not delivered till Saturday so They could slide Martella's in! Denny Altimore is all about Martella's so obviously he was going to keep that on the DL so they could get in! But so glad he did the no hitter put all the talk to sleep!
Re: 2 Teams??
Johnstown having two teams in the tournament was a travesty. It shouldn't happen again.
