Couple takes on Gonzalez

Very happy for Gonzalez but you guys who are saying "could start next year," etc., etc. have not seen the kid play. I have, several times, and while he was named the 4A Player of the Year and had good stats, I was never really impressed with anything else but his "slipperiness" as a runner, and that has disappeared quickly this year since teams have been keying on him and he's got some knee problems.
He is an average passer at best, and I do mean that, despite the 1,900 yards he had last year. This year he has been less than an average passer. Think duck passes.
So, I AM NOT trying to knock the kid but I'm just posting to say that all of you who are so enamored are probably a little too enamored. He had a great junior season but I do not think his future is at QB. He is a good safety and in all likelihood will wind up there, although he's not as good as Holley was in high school. I simply can not see him running a college offense, even Pitt's.
OK, go ahead and lambast me. The arm just ain't there.

I agree with everything you said about Antny. We live in the Lehigh Valley and see him play all the time.
There is a difference between being a very great player and a great quarterback. Pitt runs a pro offense. Antny just can't make the throws necessary in that offense. Think 20 yard out. It is, from the right hash mark to the left sideline, a 40 plus yard throw that must be made on a line. It can't be lollipopped. Antny can't make that throw. He will be a safety in college, if the coaching staff at Pitt has a brain in its collective heads.
The only place where schoolie and I disagree is on his comparison with Easton's Jared Holley. Antny is head and shoulders better than Holley. He is just as fast, is the same type ballhawk and is a much better tackler, plus he is much bigger and stronger than Jared.
