Re: LHAC predicitions
I'm gonna have to take the defending champs.
When you look at guard play, del Rosario is a very complete player. He needs to work on his descion making. But nobody in the league can stop him from getting to the rim. His shots improving and has a lethal step back. He has all the potential to be the best player in the conference as a junior.
His backcourt mate, is sophomore Jerqual Wilson. He isn't the tallest player in the world, but makes up for his lack of size with his speed and quickness. His role will not to be a big time scorer but to take the pressure off Mason and handle the ball. I'd say with these two they are the quickest backcourt tandem in the LHAC.
The thing this team will miss is the versatility Zach Freeman brought to the table. He was able to play all 5 positions and I'm not sure they have anyone that can replace him. And how can you replace the shooting of Schrey Spisak and Penrose all 3 made over 30 3 pointers!!
Up front, Bill Dill's development will determine how far this team can go. At times last year, he was absolutely dominant and others he was just a by stander. He needs to be assertive. He is 6-7 and should average a double double no problem.
A lot also has to with how some of the role players will play. Bako is a big body that can rebound. Metzler is a senior that has a good shot. and Junior Pat O'Reilly was a big time player for the JV team last year and needs
to step up and help the varsity this season. Also juniors Antolik and Swalligan can be big factors for this season if they put the time into it.
With coaching and the emergence of del Rosario and DIll, I would have to assume they are the top team and the favorites to repeat the LHAC.
Sure Johnstown had a good freshmen team last year and they have 2 players in Agurs and Eddins. I dont think they have a PG that can replace Christian and they don't have a chance of replacing a guy like Weatherly. And with the lack of practicing and poor coaching and losses of key players I don't see why there is so much hype.

Re: LHAC predicitions
A little insight on Westy...
Projected Starters
1- Rudnac/Glennon
2- Drennen/Zamias
3- Valcheff/Drennen
4- Rievel
5- Young
The Hilltoppers will be the best team in the LHAC to lose ALL FIVE STARTERS. However, teams with the proper drive and coaching tend to find ways to win. It also helps that Drennen, Valcheff, Rievel, and Young are all over 6 feet tall.
There's a pretty intense competition at the 1 spot, which usually leads to success. On one hand you have Rudnac, a player who started a few games last year, knocked down a bunch of shots, but seemed to have trouble with physicality and trying to do too much with the basketball. On the other hand you have sophomore Joe Glennon, who skipped out on his freshman season in order to play travel basketball. I haven't seen too much of Glennon due to the fact he didn't play Jr. High last year, but from what I hear the kid has a good head on his shoulders and makes good decisions with the ball. Even throw junior Aaron Miller into the mix (even though personally I think the kid makes basketball harder than it has to be).
The 2 guard will most likely be Drennen, but the kid seems to have a temper problem. Zamias has a great shot, but from what I saw in the JV games last year, the kid doesn't like to hustle. Still, competition at this spot will inevitably lead to both players working harder.
The 3 guard job will be held by Valcheff, who seems to be an all around natural athlete. Unfortunately there's not too much competition here, but Drennen can definitely play the 3 while Valcheff is out of the game.
Rievel, IMO the best all around player on the team, will be the 4 guard. Roman loves putting the 4 guard out on the perimeter, and Rievel has a pretty good 3 pointer to go along with his skilled inside play. The kid also drives to the basket incredibly well. Once again, Drennen and Valcheff will be able to give Rievel rest in subbing at the 4 spot.
Finally the 5 will be filled by Young. His older brother, David Young, was one of the best rebounding guards I've ever seen, but he's also the only one on the team with zero varsity experience. He seemed to have a pretty good JV season last year, but by no means does that guarantee varsity success. There isn't any competition at the 5 spot either, which not only creates problems with work ethic, but with fatigue. Once Young gets tired, I'm not exactly sure who they'll put in. Rievel is a great post player, but I'm not exactly sure he has the size to guard Bill Dill.
Overall, the Hilltoppers should be ready to get back to the glory days with a great coaching staff (thanks to Johnstown for Coach Durham) and proper work ethic from the kids. People doubt their experience, but Rudnac, Glennon, Drennen, Valcheff, and Young have all been playing AAU ball together for the past couple of years. Look for it to be an exciting season all around the LHAC!

Re: LHAC predicitions
A lot of people around Johnstown are baffled about the lose of Coach Durham he is well liked and respected. I think that move alone changes everything in the LHAC. That takes a great coaching mind from Johnstown and doubles it for Westmont. Now they have 2 great minds, Johnstown may have 0, BM has 1. That changes the whole outlook on what the lhac. I know people will say he is just an assistant coach, but if you haven’t been around him or seen him coach you don't know how talented he is and what he all brings to the table. I may have some biased opinion because I was a supporter of his at Johnstown, but I'm also being honest.WestyFan007 wrote:A little insight on Westy...

I still think Johnstown is the most talented team.

Re: LHAC predicitions
Wpial Titan take a deep breath.
I believe that westy007 was just thanking Johnstown for letting coach Durham slip away. I don't think it was anything against D.Roman. I don't think he/or she was saying they will win because of R.Durham. D.Roman is a great coach with a great resume and last year he and R.Durham made a great team which they will probably continue this year at Westmont.
R.Durham is a very young coach I believe he is only 25 years old and I feel schools are scared to take a shot with a coach that young. I know at Johnstown it was a very sticky situation with this years hiring and politics are so influential in high school hiring’s. You should know this if you are around high school sports as much as I think you are. I also thought you were a teacher so I'm imagining you understand all the politics that go around high school athletics.
Johnstown is still the most talented team in the LHAC

WPIAL~Titan wrote:Also, I have read much here about this "assistant" Ryan Durham, how he should've gotten the head job at Jtown, etc. The quote about "Westmont is ready to get back to the glory days, thanks to Coach Durham" The guy has never been a head coach at any level, yet he's going to save Westmont basketball? I thought Roman was the coach?

Well once again WPIAL~TITAN you have made an @$$ of yourself. That is a wrong qoute from westy007. Why am I not surprised, you are the one who said D.Roman would not go back to Westmont and you would bet your whole pay check. I'm still waiting for my cut. From what it sounds like you know Coach Durham you sure do know about what his resume lacks. It sounds like you are a little jealous of this kid.
Everyhing you say on here we need to FACT CHECK:
