Bishop Carroll vs. Dubois CC Boys A Central Cambria HS 5:00
Clairton vs. Shade Boys A Gateway HS 7:30
In the ladies matchups, just going on guesses and gut feelings
Windber
Marion Center
Jeannette
Oakland Catholic
Boys....
Johnstown will have their hands full, our resident wpial expert says Johnstown has a chance. The Trojans need to make the game up and down, and will need to shoot well to dispel one of the top teams from the WPIAL. I'm taking West Mifflin though.
I like Southern Fulton in this one, I think the smaller quicker SF team causes problems, but if CV can slow it down and pound it to the big man, the Jays have a chance. I think CV is a year away....I'm going Southern Fulton.
Size wise, NC and Union are about dead even. I like Northern Cambria's ability to shoot. I'm taking the D6 squad in this one.
I think Carroll will be able to use their athleticism and pressing style to frustrate the Cardinals who will be making a long trip for an early game.
Shade needs to make sure they play Basketball and not get into a track meet with the much more athletic Bears. Gibbons should be the best player on the floor, and will be counted on to score a bunch. I'll take the Panthers.
Up in the air if I'm attending the games, I'd like to head out to Ebensburg for the BC and Johnstown games, but that girls game in between kinda would ruin that plan. May head to UPJ to see Valley play....
Please post updates and scores.

Dubois Central Catholic big over Bishop Carroll Final
Re: Friday's games.
BC was close up until a minute left, just coundn't hit layups. DCC had very little trouble with BC's press and DCC's big guy just took the game over in the 2nd half. Good adjustments by their coach at halftime. BC was getting to the basket but missing layup after layup. Good Year!!

How about SF CV?
Re: Friday's games.
NC over Union by 12 (62-50). Good Job Colts! This has got to be their first state win in a long time. Anyone Know? MSA just said they will play Rocky Grove in 2nd round.

Re: Friday's games.
Probably 1965, which was one of the great local teams for the area. They defeated Montrose for the state title and I think their only loss was to DeMatha Catholic.
In the last decade, I believe NC had gone 0-4 or 0-5 in opening round PIAA playoff games. Their team in 2001 or 02 was very good but after winning d6AA over Westmont, they fell at the buzzer to WPIAL's Wilkinsburg who I think went on to the state semis. I'm thinking Aliquippa or another WPIAL AA power beat them.

Johnstown 12 WM 8 after 1. Not too impressed with Hester and WM so far.

Re: Friday's games.
Gotta give the colts from Barnesboro a ton of credit. Playing Union practically on their home floor and winning by double figures. This Colts team doesn't have the experience or talent the 2000-2002 nc teams had and they couldn't get a win in the State playoffs. gotta give credit to the hardworking kids and good coaching on this one. the broadcast also stated they primarily play 3 seniors and 5 sophomores. theres a bright future there.
