Worst Memory

Post by Dep »

What is your worst memory of wrestling?

Mine is trying to find shortcuts to make weight, laxatives and water pills. It kept me from wrestling my best. It did not take long for me to realize that making weight is a commitment with no days off.

having to go down into the boiler room after practice to shed some extra weight my junior year was terrible...i started out at 185 in football and ended up wrestling 152...that made for a very long winter...so my worst memory and worst decision in wrestling was sucking that much weight that year...

Have a feeling a lot of bad memories are going to concern weight making.

Oh I got a couple for ya here:

Trying to cut from 60 to 55 back in the elem. and not eating for a week...ended up puking up stomach acids and not even making it to 55

Getting knock out of states two years in a row, by the same kid, when I was only one match from medaling...then finally medaling and thinking it would finally be a relief, when really there were too many guys standing higher than me on that podium and I still felt underachievement

All those times I blew leads in key matches: freshman year at regionals, I blew a 3-0 lead against eventual regional champ John Vitolo; sophomore year I did it a couple of times- blew a 6-2 lead against state medalist Drew Rose, gave up a reversal to Cory Ickes with 17 seconds left for my only ever dual meet loss; junior year- gave up a last second reversal to lose to Hollobaugh and be put out of states; senior year- in a tie match, getting tossed for 5 to take 8th

You're right gunner, but in an individual sport you can forget about your team sucking. Now playing soccer for Everett...that is a bad memory.
