D6 AA Final: Richland vs Central

Post by lhacbigfan »

This is probably one of the most anticipated championship games in recent memory. Both teams have been destroying people all year with high powered offenses and athletes all over the field. Richland has outscored opponents 563 to 142, while Central has outscored opponents 506 to 199. I'm sure Richland will be the favorite, but the Dragons have showed the LHAC that they are no joke in the last two weeks by dominating Central Cambria and Forest Hills. This is shaping up to be a game that nobody will want to miss.

I agree, IMO, this game is all on Richland's defense. I think the offense can score on them. But, can Richland stop them from pounding the ball for 4 to 6 yards every play and having time consuming drives.

Let's hope for Richland's sake, they don't try any more of those 4th and 20 fake punts from the 50 yard line with 6 minutes to go in the 3rd quarter. And for Central, isn't committing 4 pass interference penalties enough for one game?

I know, for all of Bailey's innovations in offense. He drives us fans crazy with those 4th and longs. Against Liggy is was a 4th and 15 on our own 35!

I've been to 2 Richland games this year, Bellwood-Antis and Tyrone. Both games he tried to convert a long 4th down or a 4th down in his own territory. Against good teams, you have to play field position and ball control. Better be careful that doesn't end up biting him in the end. Especially if he's been doing it all year and teams see game film, they will be ready for it. It should be a great game this weekend! I can't wait!

Arrogant, or confident. Let's be real, was Ligonier ever really a threat to Richland without their best player? I'm sure coach knew that, and knew his defense could back him up if he didn't.

I wouldn't expect a ton of aggressive calls against Central, but games like Ligonier and Bellwood it didn't hurt to take a risk.

He did it against Tyrone Friday night when they were around mid-field. I just see him going to the well one to many times and it costing him. Hes a GREAT innovative coach with a heck of an offense, I have NEVER seen a high school offense in this area as complex and highpowered as Richland's. But it just seems like his big play success could turn out to be his achille's heel in the end if he gambles one to many times against the wrong team. Because from here on there's no more "gimme" games. You get past Central, then you might have Hickory again, and then the ultimate measuring stick...Aliquippa. Not saying the Rams can't beat all these teams but they need to play more conservative in crucial/4th down situations and not take as many risks.

Friday night Richland was at mid-field 4th and 20 with 6:20 of the 3rd quarter. They had a lead of 17 points, 29-12. Everything was in their favor. The clock was on their side, Tyrone needed 3 scores to take the lead. So Richland has Pecora, who was in punt formation, throw a long bomb which fell incomplete. Tyrone takes over, and minutes later it was 27-18. The crowd seemed disenchanted with the play call. Can't blame them.
