2014 Pitt Schedule released

Post by Crimson's Ghost »

No Florida State, Clemson, Louisville, or Notre Dame. Pitt needs to do better than 6-6, and I think they will. Schedule isn't too bad, freshman become sophomores.

8/30 Delaware
9/5 AT Boston College (Friday)
9/13 AT FIU
9/20 Iowa
9/27 Akron
10/4 AT Virginia
10/16 Virginia Tech (Thursday)
10/25 Georgia Tech
11/1 Duke
11/15AT North Carolina
11/22 Syracuse
11/29 AT Miami

Syracuse is Pitt's permanent crossover game, and apparently the ACC is trying permanent Thanksgiving rivalries within the league for those schools who do not play an in-state rival that weekend, so they settled on Miami. If the PSU games ever develops back to what it used to be, it would be cool to play it then, but the B1G doesn't seem to play any nonconference games past September usually.

Quick analysis. I know Pitt will lose to Miami. After that, it all depends on how Voytik and the line plays. Do I think 10-11 wins? No. But man, when you avoid the four best teams, 8-4 isn't terribly out of the question. Pitt lost to VT, GT, UNC last year in what were decided in a TD or less. Pitt also narrowly beat UVA and Syracuse, so things can go either way.

Hard to say right now, but I think Pitt has a roster capable of finishing higher than 6-6

I swear I say this every year, and somehow by November it gets translated to me saying Pitt would go 11-1 LOL.

i agree with crimson about 6-6 but it would be nice to see pitt surprise us all and go 9-3 or 8-4 and maybe sneak into the ACC Championship game

The ACC Coastal certainly is not made up full of world beaters.

Va Tech won't be down very long
Miami is on the rise

Pitt, Ga Tech, and UNC typically will be challengers

Duke won't stay a solid program, and UVA's Mike London has a very hot seat.

That's your typical Coastal Division, lot's of moving parts. No Ohio State's like PSU has to deal with.

That is a VERY easy schedule. If Chryst goes anything less than 7-5, he should be fired. Lots of question marks mainly QB and replacing Donald and Hendricks. My Opinion

8/30 Delaware - Easy Win
9/5 AT Boston College (Friday) - This game on a Friday night does not help Pitt. I will say L
9/13 AT FIU - Easy Win(I think) If they lose, the season will be a disaster
9/20 Iowa - W or L Pitt's Dline might be in trouble here
9/27 Akron - W
10/4 AT Virginia - L Tough call. Virginia has been bringing in lots of talent, but do not know if London can coach it
10/16 Virginia Tech (Thursday) - W (I think they will split VA and VA Tech)
10/25 Georgia Tech - W
11/1 Duke - W
11/15AT North Carolina - L
11/22 Syracuse - W
11/29 AT Miami - L

My guess would be anywhere from 7-5 to 9-3. This is the year I would expect Pitt to have a better record than PSU. PSU will be in trouble this year due to depth on the Oline and Dline. If Chryst can't do it this year, Pitt fans should be concerned.

Here is an outsider opinion on this program and Pitt in general. They always seem to have a half of dozen players that makes the fan base very optimistic. I can see where they COULD win 10 games next year. The problem that Pitt seems to run into anymore is they don't win the games consistently that when you lay a schedule out like this and run down game by game the majority has then winning. Going into last year I would say 90% of people had them beating Navy. Losing that 1 games doesn't seem like that big of a deal but with that win they end the season 8-5. The year prior losses to Youngstown and UCONN left me scratching my head. Once again, winning those games gets them to 8-5. In 2011, a home loss to Utah and a road loss to a mediocre Rutgers kept Pitt from getting to 8-5.

I think for Pitt to take the next step (which I think the are very close to doing) they need to get through this schedule next year and just win the games they are supposed to. Doing so will get them 9 wins. Throw in an upset or a bowl win and they can get to 10. I just hope they don't beat Miami and VT and lose to BC and Akron.

Historically, they can't beat Miami but they can beat Va Tech. Realistically speaking, if Pitt pulls the Iowa upset and avoids one of their own could be 6-0 heading into a national TV showdown with the Hokies. In all actuality, Pitt SHOULD be at least 5-1, and 4-2 would be a little upsetting.

We always hear what Pitt's record should be. It never matches what it will be.

Well that appears to be the case for most teams not named Alabama anymore anyway.
