Saturday Game Options (Week 8)
Saturday Game Options (Week 8)
I'm going to the West Middlesex @ Homer-Center game this Saturday and am planning on taking in one of the two afternoon games near Johnstown.
I go to a lot of games every year, and this will be my first games in District 5 or 6 other than a playoff game at Altoona years ago.
So, the two options are:
Westmont Hilltop (1-6) v. Penn Cambria (4-3)
Conemaugh Valley (1-6) v. Berlin Brothersvalley (6-1)
Neither game looks all that promising, competition-wise. Penn Cambria is a 35-8 favorite, and Berlin Brothersvalley is a 56-0 favorite.
So, matchup wise, Westmont Hilltop is probably going to be the better game. But, other than sheer matchups, I'm also interested in personal opinion of the venues, bands, pageantry, better crowd, stadium, parking (never forget parking), etc, on where to go to a game.
I've been to 45 game so far this year, and have been to 100 each of the past two years, and 73 the year before that. So far this year, I've seen games in TN, KY, OH, PA, NY, and MA. Planning for games in IA, MN, NE, IL, MD, NJ, and TX later this year. Personally, have already seen games in:
CA, UT, MT, WY, CO,
NM, ND, NE, OK, TX,
MN, IA, MO, MS, GA,
SC, NC, TN, KY, WI,
MI, IN, OH, PA, WV,
NY, MD, NJ, & MA. (29 + Ontario, Canada)
If you're interested in pictures of the games, you can go here; http://www.flickr.com/sykotyk/sets/
My favorite picture from the games, and one of my favorites games:
Grass Range/Winnett v. Rosebud is Grass Range, Montana. Last game of the 2011 season, neither team had a win. Playing 6-man football before a crowd of less than 100. Beautiful day.

Re: Saturday Game Options (Week 8)
I grew up real close to Westmont's field, and a Saturday afternoon in the Fall in "Old Westmont" isn't too bad. Westmont's stadium is adjacent to Luzerne Street. Luzerne Street is one of the more famous streets in Johnstown, and one of the nicest looking ones in all of Pennsylvania. It's lined perfectly with Oak trees and mini mansions, and looks great in the Fall.

You can always catch a post game dinner at Asiago's just up the street from the stadium at the Inclined Plane and catch a pretty great view of Johnstown and the mountains.
If you are into the photography and looking for cool views of the area, Luzerne Street and the view from the Johnstown Inclined Plane are pretty scenic.

That's awesome! Does it have to be high school? St Francis plays Bryant in Loretto at noon. I was actually thinking about going to that on Saturday.

Thanks for the info. I was favoring Westmont, and your thoughts have fairly solidified it, unless there's a better argument for Conemaugh ValleyCrimson's Ghost wrote:I grew up real close to Westmont's field, and a Saturday afternoon in the Fall in "Old Westmont" isn't too bad. You sir might have the best life in the world from the months of August - December. Im officially jealous. Great pictures though! The field couldnt have been placed in a better location at Westmont. Phenomenal landscape around it. Enjoy!

Unless a fight breaks out between a player's girlfriend or mom and a coach I doubt you would miss anything thereSykotyk wrote:

Re: Saturday Game Options (Week 8)
The concessions in Westy are pretty good. You won't have to worry about finding a seat, even after the game starts. It is a nice venue. I'm guessing it will remain, even after they close the Jr. High there?
It ain't over until it's over.

The school district will continue to use the middle school gym and the entire football facility for the foreseeable future.

You can get great pictures at Asiago and also ride the Johnstown Incline with your vehicle.
Question: Where did you see Penn Cambria 35-8 and Berlin 56-0 ?
