My D6 girls rankings, Happy New Year

Post by districtsixhoops »

After many Holiday tourneys here are my rankings. Not much change.

AAAA - SC has a firm grip here
State College
Hollidaysburg
Altoona

AAA - Ditto for FH
Forest Hills
Ligonier Valley
Johnstown

AA - I know Juniata beat PV but only by 2 and at Juniata
Bellwood
Bishop McCort
PV
Juniata
Westmont
Central
Tyrone

A - BG beat Delone but shot 26 foul shots to Delone's 13. At BG that's what you get. BC and JV could make some noise here.
Blairsville
University of BG
BC
JV
Homer Center
Portage
Claysburg

My top 3 girls teams in each classification. I believe 4A and 3A only get 1 spot in PIAAs. 2A should get 3. 1A gets 4.

4A - State, Hollidaysburg, Altoona: State is okay but 4A is very, very weak this year.
3A - Forest Hills, Ligonier, Johnstown: Very weak classification as usual.
2A - Bellwood, McCort, Westmont: Pretty strong thru the top 6-8 teams.
1A - Blairsville, BG, Portage (BC, Homer, JV): Blairsville, BG, and Portage are above the rest. Blairsville and BG played well in the BG tourney, Portage annihilated AAA Derry and AAA Johnstown in the Ligonier Tourney. BC, Homer, and JV are improved but still are a level below the top 3.

Regardless, D6 will be well-represented in the PIAA tournaments in 2A and 1A - not so much in 4A and 3A.

Did you hear that the school located in Alexandria in Huntingdon County is going by a new name? I hear they are having trouble deciding between Juniata (Bedford County) Valley or Juniata (Bishop Catholic) Valley. Either way it shows the true way they have improved. I know, just play harder and don't worry when schools get players from outside their school borders yet compete in single A. It shouldn't matter that others get the benefit of doing things that making a mockery of the rules.

The question I have and can't get an answer on, is how did JV become the landing spot for these girls? I mean there were many options but how did they pick JV. Was it instant playing time? Someone knew someone? I'm not downing JV but I just don't understand how they picked that school. It's not like it is just down the road for most of these kids so can't be location.
