Rumors For Next Year Already

Post by Eaglealum »

I've heard talk from coaches, that there are several changes that could be coming soon.State duels may take more than 1 team from some or all districts. That's the 1st most likely change. Then the rumble of dropping to 12 weights are getting louder.I heard it's a real possibility, and soon.I personally am in favor of both, what do you all think?

I think expanding the State Duals is very close....moving it to 16 teams, with some districts qualifying 2 teams.....although there are many ideas about the weights, with PA leading the discussion in dropping to 12, I believe it is very early in the process...so don't bank on that for next year....the National Federation will make that decision, eventually, if there is one to be made....

at the local level, I wonder what District Six will do with the ever-increasing number of teams jamming into the Tyrone gymnasium....I've heard the gripes in the past....I now believe that something needs to be done....

The only answer is reviving the sectional tourney a week before districts. If they reduce to 12 weights that will help too. There are more teams now in AA than when they dropped the sectional, and with 14 weights, that adds to the 3'S competing as well. The thought of moving districts has been brought up,but there is no where they can move them to improve things.PSU facilities would be about the only way to upgrade, but with them not being able to guarantee a date from year toyear,PSU isn't even an option right now.

and I will say it again.....

I think we need to go back to sectionals.....double elimination (one and done was a killer for the upset loser)....wrestle to six places...bring back 12 wrestlers, with the top two in each getting a first round bye....it should ease some of the crowding...and the PIAA will make more money by breaking it down into two weekends....

longball your correct in saying that it may take some time in getting down to 12 weights ,as a matter of fact after talking to some of the head honchos at states they believe it may never happen at all -more than just PA has to agree on 12 weights and there are alot of states that like things just the way they are.

I'm guessing the reason that there needs to be consent by several states is because they are talking about realigning the weight class and not just dropping weight classes (I know the realignment is a fact, but is this the reason for the need for consent?). Of course all states don't need to have each weight class that other states have. For a long period, our surrounding states had the 215 lbs. weight class while we did not. None the less, I am most definitely in favor of realignment and reducing the lower weights. We don't see too many mature 103 pounders any more. You don't see the stout Kyle Szcewzyck(sp?)/Jim Collins/Robert twins type anymore. It seems your light weights these days are mostly Jr. High and late blooming upperclassman.

the answer to the overcrowding in district 6 is very simple. the state should realign and allow richland , westmont, forrest hills, portage and somerset to wrestle in district 5. this would take some of the pressure off district 6 and make district 5 a much stronger district. some of the affore
mentioned schools have asked the state already to switch but were denied.

Altoona is a much much bigger venue than Tyrone. Even State College HS is bigger. It doesn't have to be at a host school, and IMO, shouldn't be.

from what I have been told, Altoona has no interest in hosting the AA tournament...if they aren't interested, it's not going to happen....

Altoona has already said,if they don't do AAA,they don't do any.And State's school is bigger,but I don't believe their gym is.
